A certain Canadian sat at his desk, doing whatever work he had before Gilbert came. However, while writing halfway, the pen he was using ran out of ink.
" Ugh... Why does the ink always run out so fast? "
As he reached out to grab another pen, he knocked over a photo frame that was sitting on his desk.
" Oh butts- "< CRACK >
He sighed, now he had to clean up this mess before getting back to his work.
He picked up the photo frame and wiped off some pieces of stray glass on it. As he glanced at the photo inside, his violet orbs widened. He was starting to recall some stuff he didn't want to remember...Flashback
" Alfie, why do you have to leave? " His voice quivered, almost as if he was about to cry. " It's okay Mattie, you have Mom and Dad, right? " Alfred reassured him, patting his head. The American felt extremely guilty for leaving him behind, but Mom and Dad told him to get out and find a job in Florida, now that he was old enough.
Upon hearing Alfred, Matthew lowered his head and nodded swiftly, not wanting his brother to know that he was upset, although unbeknownst to Matthew, Alfred already knew, just that he didn't know what to do.
He didn't want to tell him, " No, I don't! " And cause unnecessary drama before Alfred left. He wanted to have a goodbye he didn't regret. He didn't want to create some sort of tension before Alfred left, because he had no idea when Alfred would be back.
" Yes... I do. " He managed to croak out, long bangs and a curl covering his teary eyes.
" There, that's a good Mattie. Now, I'm off to board the plane, give me a hug. " Matthew choked back a sob as he hugged his brother tightly.
" Bye Matt! See ya! "
" See you Alfred. "
The way he said goodbye, it didn't feel like a goodbye at all. It just felt as if Alfred would see his brother again a few days later, which of course, didn't happen, but not making it feel like a goodbye was exactly what Alfred intended to do. As if they would see each other again eventually...Flashback End
Matthew eventually snapped out of his thoughts and started to clean up the mess. He carefully picked up the glass shards that were on the floor and threw them away, but kept the photo with him.
Right on cue, Gilbert burst into the room. Without knocking. Which resulted in scaring the Maple out of Matthew.
" Good Afternoon Matt! "
" Are you seriously gonna call me that right before your job interview? " Matthew might have sounded stern, but his chuckling gave it all away.
" Aw come on Matthew! Aren't you gonna give your friend a hug? "
" Who ever said I was your friend? I only met you for one day. "
Gilbert pouted and sulked.
" You're mean... "
" I'm just kidding, Gilbert. C'mere. " Matthew extended his arms, engulfing Gilbert in a hug. Gilbert returned the hug, and they embraced until they heard a fake cough coming from the door.
Matthew and Gilbert pulled away from their embrace, and stared at the two men standing outside. Matthew looked them up and down, as if he was judging them, but he really wasn't. He's just too nice to do that.
One seemed to be a Spanish. He was a brunette with green eyes and an olive complexion. He was dressed properly, though. Not too casual, not too professional. His face screamed
" Mr. Sunshine And Rainbows ". Not that Matthew minded much, though.
Another one was clearly a French. He had long wavy blonde hair, with sapphire blue orbs and a fair complexion. He was dressed so flashy and stylishly, it made Matthew's eyes hurt. Something about him screamed " flamboyant ", which made Matthew slightly uncomfortable.
" Ohonhonhon~ How cute! "
" I should have brought my camera~ "
" Shut up! " Gilbert hissed and the two, but looking back at Matthew's confused face, Gilbert composed himself immediately.
" These two are my friends, they wanted to meet you in person. "
" Eh, I see. I don't mind. "
" You're nice! Are you free on Saturday- "
" Francis, don't you even think about it! "
" First impressions matter, Gilbert- " Another voice, slightly high-pitched and American, came from outside the door. Just that instant, an American walked in, clearly not dressed for the occasion as he was only wearing a casual T-Shirt with a pair of Bermudas. Glasses laid on the bridge of his nose and a cowlick stocked up from his head, strangely making his appearance complete. Something screamed " familiar " about him to Matthew.
" - Especially if you want to date my brother. "
Gilbert's face turned vermillion as Antonio and Francis burst out into fits of giggly laughter.
Fortunately for Gilbert, his pride was saved when Matthew ignored the last few words, only processing the word " brother " through his mind.
" Alfred? " Matthew mumbled.
" 'Sup Matt! " Alfred gave a salute.
Matthew pounced onto Alfred, engulfing him in a super tight hug that nearly made the American choke.
" I can't believe it... I must be dreaming... This can't be real... " Matthew pinched himself, but much to his shock and happiness, he didn't wake up. It wasn't a dream. It was real.
" This is real, Matt. I'm here. " Alfred said, giving his brother a noogie on the head, ruffling up his slightly wavy hair.
" Oh my god... I... I... I've been searching for you for ages. I wandered all around America, and now you're finally here. I can't believe it. I really can't. Sweet Maple syrup...! " Matthew broke into hysterical sobs and laughter as he squished his brother into bone-crushing hugs and noogies and pinches, smothering the poor American a bit too much. But who could blame him?
Gilbert couldn't help but feel slightly jealous, though he tried to convince himself not to. Alfred deserved to be smothered by Matthew. Especially when he hadn't seen him for a much longer time than Gilbert hadn't. Gilbert felt happy for them. If Ludwig and him were in the same boat, he would definitely smother Ludwig with love and affection the minute he saw him.
Matthew grinned, finally releasing Alfred from his suffocating grasp. Poor Alfred's face had turned purple, as if his soul just got completely sucked out from him.
" Let's get this interview started, eh? "A/N
I'm finally done with this chapter, I hope you enjoy it ^^
Do you wish to be smothered by our favorite Canadian too?
It's real coincidental for me, I chose to write this partly because my Canadian-Asian friend and I haven't seen each other for years after she moved to Canada, but we're still able to talk like best friends when we saw each other a few days ago. Yeah some of you probably don't care but Ohmygosh I feel this feeling of Deja vu when I write this chapter.
