Things got back to normal the next day. ( Well, kind of. ) Alfred was still mad at Gilbert though, and wouldn't stop glaring at him the next day. Antonio and Francis still had no idea what was going on, since nobody filled them in on it. Gilbert was still Matthew's secretary, except that they didn't speak informally to each other anymore. Yeah, it was kinda awkward...
" Gilbert, can you help me get the files for the project? "
" Okay. "
" Gilbert, can you help me get some coffee. Make some for yourself if you need to, thanks. "
" Cappuccino or espresso? "
" Espresso please. "
The two hadn't laughed, neither had they smiled once today. It was worrying Mathias, Matthew's nosy colleague. His boss was normally the carefree, smiley type. Same with Gilbert, except he was more obnoxious. He knew his boss wasn't the type to hold grudges against others, no matter what happened. His boss was a kind and friendly man, so why would he be avoiding his secretary? It was weird, and Mathias was curious about it.
So he decided to snoop around. Everyone was working except for Mathias. His desk was near to the Boss's and Gilbert's, so he could easily see and hear what was going on. However, after awhile, Mathias started to become bored. Matthew and Gilbert weren't saying anything interesting. They were just working.
The office had become so quiet with everyone working their butts off. Normally it would be filled with Gilbert's obnoxious laughter and everyone would be talking at break time. It sucked. Now they had a big project to work on, so everyone was working. Even during break time. And overtime. Ugh, it wasn't fun at all. Even Mathias was forced to work and keep quiet. He being the noisy, playful and cheerful type, was being tortured by this horrendous amount of work without being able to spout nonsense from his mouth ever so often.
One thing he realized, was that Gilbert was the life of the party. If even he was quiet now, it wasn't good for the company. It'll be so awkward, right? That's why he wanted things to go back to normal.
Soon enough, nighttime approached, and everyone finally got to go home. Mathias was hoping to be able to stay behind without anyone noticing, in case Matthew and Gilbert finally decided to talk about something else.
" Mathias, what are you still doing here? "
Mathias shrieked in shock to see his boss standing right in front of him.
" Um... Working overtime. "
" You don't need to. I got it covered, go get some rest. "
" But- "
" Go! " Matthew was firm, but he wasn't angry. He just sounded stern. Mathias was startled by the sudden change in the tone of his voice and quickly nodded, taking his bags and walking briskly out of the office.
Shit, now he couldn't get anything out of them. Damn it all.
" You should go too, Gilbert. My brother's coming to pick me up, and well... " Matthew picked up his bags and started to walk out.
" Wait, Matthew! " Shouted Gilbert as he grasped the Canadian's wrist in a firm grip.
" I can't, Gilbert! "
" What do you mean you can't! What's going on Matthew?! " Yelled the Prussian in confusion and anger. His crimson red orbs ignited with a great fire, grabbing Matthew's wrist so tightly that Matthew couldn't get free. Matthew tried squirming, but it only hurt his wrist even more. Finally, he decided not to resist.
" What's going on? Why're you acting so different today? " Gilbert demanded. He just had to get answers now.
" ... ... " Matthew hung his head low.
" Tell me! "
"... Fine. " Matthew sighed.
" After what happened yesterday, Alfred got angry. He thought you were taking advantage of me and leading me on, and told me not to hang out with you anymore. "
When he was done talking, Gilbert stared at him with a face that said " Wut? " Then burst into loud boisterous laughter, much to his boss's anger and embarrassment. His cheeks flushed a brilliant red.
" What's so funny?! " He shouted.
Gilbert composed himself immediately, wiping away the tears that were in his eyes.
" When Alfred's really angry, he doesn't think straight. He's been my friend for years now, he should know that I'm not the kind of guy to do that. He'll come back to his senses anytime now. You'll see. "
Matthew frowned. Maybe Gilbert was right.
" I guess you have a point. "
" So now what? "
" We wait for Alfred and see whether you're right. "
" If I'm right you'll have to kiss me. "
" NO. "Alfred was walking briskly towards the office, filled with regret.
He knew deep inside that he wasn't thinking straight that day. Not that he'd want to admit it anytime soon, but he had no choice. He had to apologize to Gilbert. He knew Gilbert for so long, long enough to know he wasn't that kind of guy. He also had to apologize to his brother, he knew he had been rude to him that day. He had probably hurt him, and Alfred wanted to slap himself for that.
After awhile, he had finally reached the office. Sheesh, it was so far away from home. Like 30 minutes, ugh. He opened the door, and...
... Saw Gilbert and Matthew, laughing. They hadn't noticed Alfred standing by the door, and continued to talk and laugh until Alfred interrupted them.
" Ahem! "
Gilbert and Matthew turned around, and nearly screamed in fright. Gilbert's face had gotten ghastly white. Alfred was gonna be angry again, dang. He was so dead.
" Having fun without me I see? " Alfred crossed his arms over his chest, smirking. There was no sign of anger in his voice, which was good.
" We didn't see you there, Alfred. " Matthew chuckled.
Gilbert however, stared at Alfred like he just saw a ghost.
" Awh dude, don't be so scared! Listen, sorry for the other day. I wasn't thinking straight and assumed things. "
" Matt told me. "
" Sorry, okay? Now let's go watch SpongeBob SquarePants or something. "
" Yeah, okay. "
And so, they all went to go watch SpongeBob.
... ... Until Antonio and Francis decided to barge in while drunk.A/N
