Ivan furrowed his eyebrows in frustration and anger as he paced around his room, very very tempted to destroy everything in sight. His knuckles turned white from tightening as he recalled the events that happened the previous day.
He couldn't believe it. How dare Matthew go ahead and employ Gilbert! He had originally planned to get Gilbert back into the company if he could talk some sense into his sister, Natalya. Or either way, get Gilbert back somehow. Somehow. If it was even possible.
Matthew had done a lot to irritate him and push his buttons, but this was the last straw. And to think that they used to be the best of friends.
' HA! Not anymore. ' Ivan thought as he punched the cream-colored wall, placing a dent in it.
Matthew knew about this. He somehow knew that Gilbert was fired by him himself, and swooped in and claimed him. What the fu-
" B-Boss? "
Ivan jumped.
" What is it, Toris? "
" I just came to check on you. Are you okay? "
Ivan glowered and Toris paled. At that instant, Ivan put his coat on.
" B-Boss? "
" Yes, I'm fine. Fetch me a plane, we're heading to Florida. "
" Are you sure Boss? L-Let's not be too rash about this... "
" NOW! " Ivan roared, slamming a fist down on the wooden desk. The stuff on the desk made clattering wounds, and Toris jumped in fright. He then scrambled off to inform a pilot available.
" Y-Yessir! Right away! "
As Ivan watched Toris scramble away, he sighed and growled. He tried to be the nicest he could, but today just wasn't up for it. He could barely contain his anger and frustration today. And Matthew Williams was the reason for it.
After the World Meeting the previous day, Ivan had thought of a plan. He desperately needed Gilbert back, not only for power and money, but also because Gil was currently in the hands of Matthew. Which sucked for him and rocked for that stupid Canadian. And so, he decided- He would take a plane to Florida, get Gilbert alone and capture him. If he couldn't have Gilbert, he needed ransom. He needed money for his company. He knew how attached Matthew was to Gilbert. Whether it be for power or money or even... Genuine care and love, Ivan didn't care. All he needed was money. And the power. And Matthew's pain and suffering. That's all he ever needed.
Without Gilbert, the company had started to go downhill. They were losing money instead of earning it, they had to work overtime and they couldn't get enough supplies. This proved that having Gilbert for that long was having a great effect on Ivan. He depended too much on Gilbert and now... He was a goner. Now that Matthew had him, Matthew's company had been going uphill. And that was bad.Ivan chuckled softly to himself as he boarded the plane. The pilots flew in silence, not bothering to ask Ivan anything. They knew better than to do that. They didn't want to get him mad again.
Yes, his plan was working. Yes, it was! He was a genius. Oh well, he didn't need Gilbert. Sure he had been his colleague and perhaps a friend for a couple of years, but that didn't matter anymore. All that mattered was the company and its future. And he was desperate for one, so much he would get his own hands dirty just to get it...Matthew sighed. He was all alone in his office, and it was a Sunday afternoon. He shouldn't be working on a weekend, but he had to. Just count on Gilbert to ditch him and go for a movie with Francis, Antonio and Alfred... He grumbled and flipped to another page of his documents. He jabbed the pen onto the paper and wrote furiously. When he was done, he put that sheet of paper in another pile next to him. Probably the completed ones.
Matthew wasn't able to focus ever since that meeting. This time, Ivan and him weren't arguing over stupid things. No, they were arguing over something big. Gilbert. And Ivan was probably as pissed off and frustrated as he was right now.
Matthew had known Ivan for many years. Hell, they even used to be best friends. Not sure how that was possible though. And there was one thing about Ivan that stood out from the others. Whenever he was especially angry, he would tend to get reckless and do something completely crazy or stupid. Now that they were older, Matthew was worried. He knew how angry the Russian was after that big spat yesterday, and prayed hard that he wouldn't be petty enough about it to hunt him or Gilbert down the next day.
Sometimes Matthew wondered what happened to the friendship they had many years ago.
' Oh, that's right. It all went to shit when both of us started our careers. '
Matthew thought bitterly.Matthew and Ivan used to be best buddies. Until that is, everything went to shit on that very day, February 2nd. They used to hang out during break time, eat lunches together, play together, do work together...
The first time Ivan felt jealousy was when Matthew got a better score in a test than him. He was praised and worshipped like a god. And really, Ivan got 29/30. Matthew only got 1 mark higher. What's the difference?Flashback
" Woah dude, did you hear? Matt got full marks on that algebra test! "
" Dude, how is he so smart! I'm so envious. "
On that very day, Matthew was surrounded by flocks of people, each of them asking how he got full marks on that test. Ivan who was sitting diagonally behind Matthew, bit his lip as his stomach lurched with a great discomfort. What was that feeling? Oh, right. He was jealous.
It wasn't fair. Matthew got only 1 mark higher than him and he got all the attention. What about him, huh? What about him?
" It's simple. Here, I'll teach you how to do it... " Matthew guided James through algebra homework. Ivan felt like slapping the Canadian.
But somehow, bad memories come with sweet ones. He had Matthew to thank though, because of that, he finally got to meet and talk with Yao.Ivan bit his lip in jealousy. He hung his head low and continued to do class work. And just at that moment, A Chinese kid named Yao came by. Ivan had always wanted to talk to him, but he was afraid that Yao wouldn't like him.
" Aiyah, why are you so careless, Ivan? " Yao chided.
Ivan looked up, and saw that he was face to face with the almighty Wang Yao. He was speechless. He'd been practicing in the mirror countless times, but now he had nothing to say.
" Be more careful next time okay? Don't make careless mistakes, aru. " Yao flashed a grin and shook his hand, leaving Ivan astonished and in a daze. Ivan's heart fluttered as he felt the warmness of Yao's hand on his own. And on that day, Ivan was no longer angry or jealous.Flashback End
However, Matthew and Ivan had grown up to hate each other. They drifted apart every passing day. From friendly banter, it turned to formal greetings, then to complete silence and then finally, insults were thrown. Yay. Fantastic.
Matthew and Ivan being rivals in the same business want helping much either.
In fact, it only worsened their relationship, and blasted it to bits. All that was left was a couple of burnt ashes.
