The next morning I woke up with the biggest smile. I was so happy, my family was looking at me like I've grown two heads. When I woke Maya up, I was smiling as much as I am doing now. And when she opened her eyes and saw me like that...
She screamed.
At first, I wasn't sure why. But when she told me I was smiling like a creep, I understood. I couldn't help it though. Last night, when Lucas and I talked over the phone; about the world, the moon, the stars. It was stuck in my head. I fell asleep sometime around 04AM.
I sitting on the bed thinking about it all. How we didn't fight or how he wasn't the cocky jerk. None of us was sarcastic, cocky, rude. We were calm and it felt good. I also thought about Lucas' two sides. The sun; when he is a cocky jerk. And the moon; the beautiful deep boy with hopes and dreams. It all felt weird, not hating him. Ever since his first day and our first conversation I've been hating on him. But in that moment, I couldn't find anything to hate on.
"Riley?" My mom snapped me out of my thoughts by snapping her fingers in front of my face. I looked around and we were seated around the table, eating breakfast. It was Sunday, which means pancakes for breakfast. Mom had made a bunch of them; two plates filled with them making it look like mountains.
"I'm sorry, I was...thinking." I said taking a pancake to my plate. I took syrup on it and started to dig in. While I was eating I could hear dad asking mom a bunch of questions.
"Are you sure she is...alright?"
"Yes, I'm sure she is. Why are you asking? She said it herself, she is fine."
"But...she is smiling."
Mom was getting annoyed by now. "Cory, our daughter always smiles."
He looked at her and then at me, terrified. "She is smiling more than usual."
I gave my dad a small a smile, which made him let out a sequel of fear. "Dad, I'm alright, really." I said with humour.
"Are you sure?" His voice was calm now but his face was telling me a different story. His eyebrows were raised and eyes widen in fear.
"Positive." I was near giving him a smile but Maya nudged my arm as a reminder that he was now afraid of my smile, so I didn't. Instead I smiled with my eyes which made his face as calm as his voice.
When we were done eating, the door opened and Josh walked inside. "Hello family!" He walked up to the table as sat down nat to me. Maya was on my other side and she didn't even look up. "I'm here to pick up the girls."
Now Maya looked up and she looked at me, with confusion written all over her face. "You're here to what?" She looked at Josh but you could see she was trying not to look into his eyes.
He smiled and his eyebrows knicked together, he was confused too. "Didn't Riley tell you?" He pointed his finger at me and now everyone at the table was watching me. Right, I forgot to tell Maya that before she came over yesterday for the sleepover, I kinda convinced Josh to take us out to the beach.
"Riles.." Maya trailed off and she was using her scary voice. The voice she uses towards Farkle whenever he gets on her nerves or she uses it to people she doesn't like, who also gets in her nerves. "What is uncle boing talking abou?" Josh chuckled at that and I let out a little nervous and awkward laugh.
"Well, you see my dear Maya," I gulped down the fear. "I kinda, sorta, maybe convinced Josh to take us to the beach." As I talked my voice got quieter and the last words came out like a mumble. Mom, dad and Auggie were looking at me with widen eyes and Maya was narrowing hers.
