Chapter 28

[Heatherpaw's POV]

I just had to catch this one last mouse then I could be a warrior. It would be the last thing in my assignment. I knew my mentor was watching me so I had to make it count. I stalked as close as I could get then leaped into the air.

Snatch! I got it. I lowered my head and put the poor out of its misery then gave thanks to StarClan for its life. I picked it up by the tail and headed to the training area where we would all meet back up after we were done.

I was happy to see that only Swiftpaw was there. His mentor was with my brother, Sagepaw, since his mentor away for now.

"Nice catch." Swiftpaw smiled to me. I smiled back and looked to his catches.

"I see you had good hunting as well." I purred to him.

"Yea, do you think we could go back to camp? I want to be a warrior now." He asked.

"I think we should wait for the others and our mentors." I told him. He nodded then went back to looking around.

Not too long after that the rest of them arrived. We all headed back to the camp with our mentors carrying out prey. We walked into the camp and they placed the prey down. Then they went to speak with Bearstar.

After a little bit of waiting they all came out and Bearstar called a clan meeting. I sat next to Swiftpaw and Sagepaw ready to become a warrior. Birdpaw and Sparkpaw sat next to their brother, Swiftpaw, and waited.

"We have five apprentices that have passed their warrior assignment. Birdpaw, Heatherpaw, Sagepaw, Sparkpaw, and Swiftpaw please step forward." Bearstar called. Next to him his trusty deputy, Willowglow, stood. She was also Maskedpaw's mentor.

The five of us stepped forward and looked up to Bearstar.

"Birdpaw, do you agree to follow the warrior code and protect your clan even if it means your life?" Bearstar asked him.

"I do." Birdpaw said bravely.

"Then from this moment on you shall be called Birdskip. SmallClan honors you for your bravery." Bearstar smiled to the new warrior.

"Heatherpaw, do you agree to follow the warrior code and protect your clan even if it means your life?" He asked me next.

"I do." I said standing up strongly. I had to be strong now.

"Then from this moment on you shall be called Heathershine for your ability to shine your friendship to others." Bearstar smiled.

"Sagepaw, do you agree to follow the warrior code and protect your clan even if it means your life?" He asked my brother next.

"I do." Sagepaw called out loudly.

"Then from this moment on you shall be called Sagecall for your ability to warn others of danger ahead." Bearstar smiled.

"Sparkpaw, do you agree to follow the warrior code and protect your clan even if it means your life?" He asked Sparkpaw next.

"I do." She smiled softly.

"Then from this moment on you shall be called Sparkfeather. SmallClan welcomes you as a true warrior." Bearstar smiled.

"Swiftpaw, do you agree to follow the warrior code and protect your clan even if it means your life?" He asked Swiftpaw next.

"I do." Swiftpaw proclaimed.

"Then from this moment on you shall be called Swiftriver for your great ability to swim." Bearstar smiled.

"Birdskip! Heathershine! Sagecall! Sparkfeather! Swiftriver!" The cats of SmallClan cheered. I was a real warrior now.
