“Hello! I’m Callie.” Joey took the proffered hand in her own, about to reply when she was attacked sideways by Harry. Callie laughed as Harry nuzzled into Joeys neck. “Callie! Why does Joey smell better than you?” Callie shrugged, still smiling, gracious as ever. Joey shoved Harry off of her with a scoff. “That’s called Essence of Hard Work. Some others buy the rip-off brand named Sweat.” Harry rolled his eyes and swept Callie into his arms, landing a chaste kiss on her mouth before disappearing to talk with Zayn.
“Have you met Indigo yet?” Callie frowned at her hands as she spoke and Joey raised an eyebrow. “No?” Callie nodded and led her into the kitchen where loud laughter ensued. She stepped in just in time to spot Indigo receiving the business end of a banana to the face. She gasped but grinned, that is until she spotted Callie.
“Hello.” She said coldly. Callie smiled at Indigo weakly and Joey watched the exchange. Well then…
“I win?” Niall smiled from where he was standing and Indigo gave him a look. “This isn’t over.” She said softly. He yelped before disappearing into the living room where all the lads had beer open and were chatting noisily. “Indigo, this is Joey. Joey, this is Indigo.” Joey smiled and held out her hand, which Indigo accepted. She didn’t look Joey in the eyes. In fact, she barely acknowledges her presence. “Oh, cool.” She left the kitchen as well and Joey raised her eyebrows at Callie.
“She went through a tough childhood and somehow…I remind her of someone.” She frowned at her hands again. “Oh, well, that’s okay.” She flung an arm over Callie’s shoulder ( a bit difficult due to the fact that she was slightly taller than Joey) already deciding she liked her.
“So, are you and Zayn…?” Joey looked at Callie who smiled at Joey cheekily.
“Dating?” Callie nodded.
Joey laughed. “HA! He wishes!”
Callie chuckled. “Aw, that sucks. So then, how come you’re staying with him?” Joey looked away from her. “I’m surprised Harry didn’t tell you…”
Callie shrugged. “He believes in privacy.”
“My…parental guardian had a…accident. Uhm…so…I don’t really have anywhere to stay.”
Callie furrowed her brow. “And Zayn offered for you to stay with him? That’s so sweet!” She made an adorable face and Joey smiled. She couldn’t really see why Harry was with Callie. She’d imagine Callie would be with someone like Louis…or Zayn.
“Anyway, I read in some magazine that you met Harry in Thailand. True or false.” Joey felt like someone other than her was talking. It was so weird to be talking about the biggest boy band in the world right now, as though they were close friends.
“False. Knew him from before then. In fact, I was in a similar situation to yours. Except I had a parental fall out.” Joey shook her head suddenly, rubbing her temples.
“Are you okay?” Callie rubbed her back soothingly. No, Callie was more like Liam.
“I…yeah. Just give me a minute.” A pounding headache took over and Joey frowned, pressing an index finger to her head. “Do you have a balcony or somewhere where I can catch a breather?” Callie nodded. “Upstairs, through the sliding door. Are you sure you’re okay? I could grab you a pill or ask Zayn to take-”
“No. Thanks Callie, I’m fine.” She gave Callie a weak smile and left, walking up Harry’s staircase. His house was cosier than Zayn’s open plan systematically clean triangles of steel and wood flat. Joey paused in front of the balcony, her headache evaporating into thin air. She frowned. It didn’t matter, fresh air would do wonders, even if the air was sleet and rain for her lungs. She pulled the door open, tugging her jacket tight around her. She shivered a little.
