Practise was successful the next day. Everyone got their cues right and Joey was so full of energy, it was insane. Not only had Rey’s operating been successful, but she had gotten that boys number. He was like flipping Augustus from The Fault in Our Stars. She sighed happily when she thought about him. She didn’t feel pity for him, and wasn't interested in him because he had cancer. He was just so….she didn’t know! Something about him made her want a doll of him. He was so adorable. And she loved his…eyes…she couldn’t stop staring into them.
She wanted him so badly…but not in a romantic or sexual way.
She didn’t recognise this feeling, but she knew that Zayn didn’t like it. She didn’t care though.
The one glitch in her plan was the fact that she didn’t actually have a phone. She was still too lazy to just get a goddamn charger. Just like…ugh. She didn’t want to see all the messages. All the messages form Travis and Don and Gabe and everyone she knew vaguely from school. She didn’t even want to see the messages the police had sent prior. She didn’t care anymore; in her mind the case was settled. She knew Hemp or someone like him was the culprit. Maybe even Dave.
Joey sat talking to one of the girls that did the lads makeup. She had a baby of about two sitting in her lap, jingling some car keys.
“-about a year ago. It was crazy cool! I can’t even thank them enough, they saved my ass.” Caroline chuckled, playing with the hair atop Lux’s head. She gurgled happily, dropping the keys from her small chubby hands. Joey picked them up immediately, handing them to the adorable toddler. She stared up at Joey as she took the keys, stuffing one of them into her mouth.
“So…you and Zayn?”
“HA! No, he’s just helping out in a rough patch.”
“Good friends?”
Joey heard something behind her. She immediately went on alert.
“Yeah…hey, Caroline…what would…is it possible to have love at first sight?”
Caroline tickled baby Lux, but was focusing on Joey’s question.
“I…I don’t believe in that, no. I believe it’s more severe attraction at first sight than anything else.”
“Oh, yeah. That makes sense.”
“Why…are you in love?” A new voice joined the two girls. Joey and Caroline turned to look at Zayn, shadowed by some of the machinery. He was fiddling with a piece of duct tape, his eyes flitting between the two. Joey scowled.
“Why do you care?”
“I don’t.”
“Then bugger off.”
“I’m curious.”
“When are you not?”
“Excuse me.” Caroline raised her hand as though she was in school, asking for permission. Joey and Zayn snapped their eyes to her. “Yeah?” Joey muttered lowly.
“Are you guys…like, okay with each other? Cause…you’re being a bit snappy, and you weren’t like this before.”
Zayn leant back into the wall, pouting at the duct tape.
“Who cares? I have a hair appointment. Getting a new a dye or something. I’m sick of this blonde shit.” He ruffled his hair, sighing and then walking away, dropping the duct tape onto the floor. When he was gone, Joey groaned, catching her head in her hands.
“Lord help me.” She mumbled. Caroline frowned, reaching out tentatively to touch Joeys shoulder.
“Joey…do you think you’re falling in love with Zayn?”
“I don’t know!” She wailed.
“But, why’d you ask-”
“It’s just…yesterday I met this kid at the hospital. He was adorable and stuff and I just wanted him in doll form but I think Zayn saw it as something else. He was offish the whole night and I didn’t understand till I got home and the serviette with the kids name and number on it fell out of my pocket. I don’t know Caroline…and I think…the other night we had an argument and he accidently blurted something about having feelings for me. I’m so confused! I only said all of that stuff because I knew he was there, hiding in the shadows.”
Joey sighed, running her hands down her face. Caroline frowned, looking away from Joey, her one hand rubbing her back, the other keeping Lux from falling out of her lap. “Things will work themselves out Joey. I’m sure of it.” She tried to comfort Joey, but even as she said it she doubted it. Zayn was a celebrity after all.
Celebrities didn’t get things easy…neither did the people they loved.

“Thanks for taking me home Niall. I didn’t think it through, letting Zayn go to the hair place without dropping me off first.”
Niall tilted his head to give her a cute grin. “It’s my pleasure.”
There was a stretch of silence as Niall slowed down, nearing a robot.
“So, are you-”
“Is Zayn really-”
Niall and Joey looked to each other before bursting out laughing. Joey flushed slightly. To be honest, Niall made her nervous. She hadn’t really spent time with the boys too much because she was normally with Zayn, just with Zayn, or they were busy with other things. And Zayn was easy for her to get along with. She couldn’t explain it.
But Niall? Niall was a different story. The robots turned green.
“Sorry.” Niall apologised as he changed gears and jerked forward.
“It’s okay. What were you going to say?”
Niall frowned, furrowing his brow as he changed lanes. The car in front of them was nauseatingly slow. “I was saying…is there something going on between you and Zayn?”
Silence.
“HA, no.”
“Oh.”
“Why’d you ask?”
“I dunno, just seems like something’s going on with you and Zayn behind the scenes. ANYWAY.”
“You have a reason.”
“No, I don’t.”
“Yeah, you do.”
“Nope.”
“Niall…”
“Joey…”
“Ugh.”
“Do you even have a key to the apartment?”
Joey face palmed. “No.” She moaned, smacking her head against the dashboard.
“Hey now, my car was expensive.”
Joey snorted, pulling her forehead off of the dashboard. “Great, I’m stuck.”
“No, you aren’t. Because I have an apartment, and you can come visit me! Anyway, the rest of us lads don’t know you so well because Zayn, as with everything, likes to keep you to himself.”
“Oh…”
“What would you say to some Italian take-away?”
“Yum?”
“My kind of a girl.” Niall grinned as he turned the corner.
