I pulled into the nearly empty parking lot of the ice cream parlor. Of course it would be empty, who wants ice cream at eleven thirty at night? Apparently Ettie and I. Juliette slid out of her seat, skipping to the building. She had to be younger than me, not by much, but definitely younger.
"C'mon, Phi, hurry!" She whined as I slowly walked up to the building.
I laughed as she bounced around, extremely impatient. "I'm coming, chill."
We sat down at one of the tables outside after retrieving our ice cream. Yes, at nearly midnight, we sat outside with ice cream.
"So, Miss. Juliette, how old are you?" I chuckled.
"Eighteen. I'm the youngest."
"Fun. How many others?"
"Just one, and he's pretty cool, so I guess it's not too bad. He works for a band. Tour manager."
"That's cool. What band?"
She gestured towards her shirt. "ATL. I was actually helping with selling merch with Vinny, their normal merch guy, today."
"Is th-"
I was cut off by her phone ringing.
"Sorry...speaking of my brother, it's him." She apologized before poking her screen and holding it up to her ear.
"Hi, Matty....No, I'm with a friend...I'm fine, Matthew...You can meet them when they bring me home...Okay, Matty...Love you too, bye."
"What was that about?" I giggled when she shut her phone and sighed.
"My brother worries too much. It's like he thinks I'd willingly go away with some creepy, sleezy dude or something. I may only be eighteen, but I can handle myself."
"So, I suppose I have to meet him when I take you home?"
She blushed. "Yeah...sorry about that."
I smiled. "It's all good. You said he was cool, right?"
"Yeah, just a bit over protective."
"My brother's the same way."
"Older brother?"
"Mhm. He's the guitar tech for a small band. My Maiden Voyage?"
"Oh! I've heard of them. They're cool." She smiled.
For the first time in a long time, I felt like I could relax, I felt like I could be myself.
"Yeah, he's actually got a kid with the drummer's sister."
"Awh, so you're an aunt?" She squealed.
"Mhm. Alec Ivan Silverfield." I told her, showing the picture I had as my phone's screensaver.
"He's adorable..."
About an hour later, we decided to leave, so I could take her home. Her brother had called another three times. He was worried, obviously, but I'm not a serial killer. Ettie and I slid into my car as she gave me her address. Sighing, I pulled out of the parking lot and prepared myself for the barage of questions I would most likely receive from my new friend's brother.
