Soph's p.o.v.

My eyes went wide. Lung cancer? This had to be fake, or a dream, or something.

I shook my head. "No. No. No. No. No."

Matt placed a hand on my back as I broke down.

"I'll leave you guys alone." Dr. Emerson whispered, before turning and slowly walking out the door to the room.

"Why did he ask about your grandmother?" Matt whispered as the door shut.

My tears didn't stop. "He's an oncologist. He saw my grandma when she had-"

I couldn't bring myself to say the words. He sighed, and climbed into the bed beside me, holding me close.

"Shhh." He whispered. "It'll be okay."

"No, it won't. She died from this, and so did my great grandma... There's no hope for me."

"There's always hope."  He stated firmly.

My lip was tremembling as I looked up at him, an odd request in my thoughts.

"Matt.."

"Hm?"

"Can you sing to me?"

I wanted to sleep. I just wanted to forget everything for a while, and with all these thoughts running around my brain, I knew it wouldn't happen unless someone helped.

He gave me a small questioning glance before nodding. "Of course."

"Thank you."

I laid my head on his chest as he began singing my favorite song from the band he managed.

"Can I pick you up for,

Another night on the north shore?

Do you even want to see my face again?

I'm a waste of chances,

Full of bad romances,

Your favorite enemy,

And your most hated friend.

When it hurts, it hurts,

You wonder if it's worth it.

But when it works, it works,

When it's broke, it's perfect..."
