CHAPTER ONE
The hit was a success. I hadn't felt any emotion as the man struggled with his parachute and at last...hit the ground. I had learned to turn it off over the years. Emotions were a type of weakness when it came to our jobs. If you cared for the people, it would be impossible to finish them. We were supposed to hide the strongest of emotions in the depth of our minds and lock them away, never to be seen again.
The police were called and notified of the 'accident'; our insider with the cops destroyed all evidence of us ever being in contact with Mr. Traelee. We were gone before the cops even showed up.
I pushed my feet into my boots and zipped it up, tying up the laces. A shadow appeared above me, but I didn't bother looking up.
"Des, hurry up," he commanded impatiently and I rolled my eyes.
"I'm coming, I'm coming," I sighed, overdramatically and stood. I looked up and watched as the over-tall Cain turned around, and began to walk towards the helicopter and jumped inside. The rotors started to spin rapidly, so I broke out into a run. I had been left before, it was not fun at all. It was what you would call Cain's sick idea of a joke. I, being the youngest member in our group at the time, was apparently the victim of all the pranks. Mostly by Cain, though he was only a few years older than me.
I jumped in the passenger side of the helicopter and pulled on my earmuffs.
"So are we going home now," I assumed, looking out of the clear window as we rose higher and higher from the ground, watching the brilliant green trees below fade into the distance.
"No, we have another hit, we have to go see the Boss," he informed me loudly over the noise, pulling the controls and levers. Our Boss had his own secret safe house in the middle of nowhere practically and that was where we were heading.
"What? I thought you told Rosa that we were going home today. Why are we going without her?"
"The Boss just requested us two for this one,"
"Why just us?" I asked, skeptically. Rosa was older than me by a year, if anything I would have thought I wouldn't have been ready for this hit over her, due to seniority or something.
"We have more training than her and well Rosa is weak," he spat, disgustedly.
I looked towards him in shock. Why would he say that about his sister? Was this hit really that bad? I kept to myself for the rest of the ride.

Two and a half hours later, we arrived at the landing pad an hour away from the safe house. From there we had two of the Boss' men pick us up and drive us. It was a long process of switching rides and different people taking us towards the hideout.
Only his agents could enter or even know where the Boss' hiding place was, little alone know his real name. No one I knew at the time even had an idea of what he could have been possibly called originally.
It started with a small deserted building with rusted panels and rotting boards. The windows were boarded up and it looked like the old roof was going to collapse. Though, on the inside...it was completely different. Well, if you knew what you were looking for. The little house branched out underground into hundreds of rooms and hallways.
Cain and I headed inside while two of the Boss' men stayed behind and secured everything. It was practically an underground bunker, setup for easy living and comfort. We passed through security checks and finally entered the main area, which led to other sections for meetings, other confidential works, and training.
