CHAPTER SIX

Hunter explained the route we were taking but I sighed. He insisted on not telling me where we were going at all, which infuriated me.

I thought I had knew Hunter, he was acting so weird. Ever since Cain arrived...

I shook my head at the thought and concentrated on the road, speeding up a bit as another thought came to mind; how close were they?

"Cain, do you have any idea where they can be? Like how close they are?" I shifted my eyes over at him for a quick second to see him staring at me, intently.

"By the terms of distance? Not far," he shook his head and looked out the window and all around, "but for now I don't think they have a good trail on us yet."

"Is it right up there?" I inquired on the edge of cracking. I usually hated driving for long distances all at once. Most of the time it could be relaxing but especially not this time.

"Yes, it's just over that hill. There'll be a driveway and then large barbwire fences," Hunter explained from the backseat. I looked in the rear view mirror to see if Kerri had any idea where we were going but her face was an image of confusion.

I drove over the hill and pulled onto the drive way but parked off to the side. We got out of the car but when I saw the premises I stopped in my tracks.

"What the hell?" Cain and I shouted at Hunter, turning with furious expressions.

"What?" Kerri looked at Hunter as well.

"It's the safest place for Kerri right now," he proclaimed, trying to look innocent. But he had other motives that you could see. He didn't like Cain and obviously either didn't like me or forgot about what this would do to me.

"Yeah, but at the same time, if we walk in there, we'll be arrested or killed if you tell them why you are running. Our team is coming after you, meaning; we were part of it," Cain exclaimed and I nodded.

"Then we'll go by ourselves!" Hunter said and grabbed Kerri's hand.

Cain then grabbed mine and tried pulling me back to the car but I dug my heels into the ground trying to hold myself there.

"Cain, no. I have to make sure Kerri stays safe!"

He turned towards me and shook his head. He held my forearms, looking down at me intently, and said quietly, "If you go in there, you'll be behind bars within seconds, how will you make sure she's okay like that? If you leave now, you can check up on her frequently without getting both of us in trouble. Do you understand?"

I nodded, defeated. I don't want to leave her.

"Desdemona, it's okay. I'll be safe for now, we'll give you updates when there is some," Kerri pulled me into a hug and we clutched onto each other for a few seconds. "I'll be okay, Des, please I don't want you to get in trouble despite your past actions."

"Kerri, these people that are after you, you have no idea what they can do. Just please, be careful," I begged and pulled away looking at Kerri intently.

"I will but you must do the same, my dear sister. When this is all done, we can go home and live normally after this,"

Tears rolled down her face but she didn't make a move to wipe them away. I nodded and all I wished was that I could cry, too. But it was a nature that I didn't have any more. Instead my chest ached intensely.
