CHAPTER TWO
I didn't know where to go at first. All I knew was that I had to get away before someone decided to stop me and bring me back. I knew the Boss would somehow threaten my real family if he had the chance. No one knew about my last member, my sister Kerri; she was thought to have been killed with the rest.
My father was an assassin originally. He had been partners with the Boss. He was secretive, sly, and sneaky; I loved him either way. Even though he had gotten killed along with my mother. They were not careful; my mother didn't like my father's ways and tried to stop him once she found out. My father loved her a lot, but he couldn't protect the both of them. He was going to give in to my mother's wishes. That was when he let his guard down. They were killed by my father's worst nightmare.
My sister never wanted a part in the industry. She left right away at legal age, not telling anyone where she was going. My father always knew where she was though and I kept that tab over the years when both my parents died; that was my hope of living without any of the industry getting in the way.
I headed back to my home first, the one where I shared with Cain and Rosa. I arrived there a few hours later and found Rosa pacing back and forth when I walked inside. Her light brown hair was getting in her face but she kept walking.
"Des! Cain called and told me that something went wrong!" she exclaimed, letting her emotional guard down, looking worried and concerned with her big brown eyes.
"Yes, I quit," I replied, stiffly and continued upstairs to get my things. I walked into Rosa and my room and pulled out a small suitcase. I pulled my clothes out of the drawers and threw them into it.
"What are you doing?!" she almost shouted in shock.
"Packing. When is Cain going to be here?" I inquired emotionlessly. Though for the first time in a while, I was aching inside. I didn't want to leave Rosa especially.
"Maybe five minutes, why?" she cringed as I dropped more things into my suitcase. I looked up at her through the corner of my eye, alarmed. Damn, that doesn't give me enough time to get out of here. I cursed the sky internally.
"I have to leave, Rosa. I'm sorry. I can't do this anymore," I shook my head and quickly zipped up everything.
"Why can't you stay here though?"
Tears began to form in her eyes, and for once I was sympathetic to her emotions. Usually I would have scolded her for being so weak. I knew what Cain said was true about her but I didn't like to mention it to anyone.
"I can't..."
"Can't you just wait a few nights? Make a decision with a clear head? Where would you go?" Rosa pulled her act together, realizing that she slipped big time.
"I don't know if I can. The Boss might do something to get me to change my mind. My mind is set though. I especially can't tell you where I'm going, I don't want you to follow me," I picked up my suitcase and started walking down the hall and downstairs to the front door.
Cain crashed through the door. "Des!"
I swore.
"I'll leave you two alone..." Rosa left the room, sullenly.
"What are you doing?" he demanded, gesturing to my suitcase.
"I'm leaving,"
