CHAPTER FIFTEEN
"In and out, people! They are all deadly killers, and they don't care about killed officers or anyone for that matter. We finally have a warrant to do this after supplying enough proof, and they probably know we are coming. They have insiders in everything! Be aware! Remember this will save lives, this is for your country! Spare no one if they threaten your life and do your best!" Kerri shouted the small crowd in front of her. Each one of them were armed with many deadly weapons but only for self-defense.
The plan was simple. They were going to bomb the bunker with sleeping gas and then invade, arresting everyone there. They had one insider with the industry. She had been one of Kerri's friends when they were little. Jamie, her friend, had been wanting to leave the business for quite a long time but she had too much at stake. She was born into the killing like many others. Jamie was to plant the bombs everywhere throughout the bunker. She hated all of her co-workers so she felt no guilt. You feel no guilt when you kill for a living for years. At least she didn't anymore. She was just as guilty as anyone else, she was committing treason practically but she didn't care.
It was the month where Cain was to return. He had told his father his arrival would be spontaneous. Whenever he could get himself up and leave his paradise.
Team Alpha was on another trip for a job in Australia, but Rosa decided to skip the one mission to go visit Cain to see how he was doing. They were both safe for now.
Amare knew of their coming. He knew he could be dead or arrested in a few hours. He made his possible last phone calls.
"Father, why are you calling, what is wrong?" Cain asked urgently. His father never called him, he usually waited to say anything the next time Cain called.
"Stay where you are for a while and definitely don't return here. Take care of Rosa. Don't let anyone hurt you two,"
"Why, what is happening? Tell me, do not dare leave me in the dark on this! I must know what I'm protecting her from anyways!"
"Kerri and Hunter are leading a miniature army to destroy our business, I'm going through precautions to keep information hidden now. Chances are I will end up in jail or dead, my son. I just want you to know that I do love you, you mean the world to me. You, Desdemona, and Rosalind always will no matter what happens. I'm sorry I put you through so many horrible things."
Cain was silent with shock on the other line. His father was really acting like a father now.
"Father, I love you, as well. I'll keep Rosa safe, and I will get you out of the slum if you make it there. Good luck."
Amare was touched that after all he did, his son did still love him. He was a terrible father and he knew it. He had locked away all his feelings when his wife was murdered so many years ago. Amare had promised Damian, Des' father, that he would to keep Desdemona and Kerri safe always and he would keep his word despite his threats. He would always keep Cain and Rosalind safe as well. Amare just wished Damian was alive still. He knew that Damian was always a better leader than him.
He made one last phone call, "Desdemona, there's a slight hitch over here. I will explain later but I am sending you the main hard drive, please guard it with your life. Information about everyone you love is on there, do not let anyone else see it."
"I understand. I will not fail you. And Amare? Good luck with your hitch,"
Amare wasn't planning on living through this. He wrote his final goodbyes in a letter to his loved ones and sent one of his most trusted agents to deliver the hard drive and letter personally to Desdemona. Amare told him to never come back and his agent needed no explanation, just obeyed.
An hour later, the bombs went off. People dropped within minutes. Amare had no fear as he sat in his office for the last time, waiting for someone to come. His gun was in front of him, ready to go if needed. Soon enough that's what happened. Kerri burst in and held a gun up to Amare's head.
"My dear Kerri, may you have peace after you finish me. Your father would be proud of you. I'm sorry for the pain you've went through." Amare said sincerely. It had been years since he had been sincere like that.
"How dare you apologize to me! You destroyed my family and now I'm destroying your world!" Kerri shouted, fiercely. Amare smiled, proudly that the small girl known as Kerri he knew so many years ago was now fierce like a tigress.
"Please promise me one thing, Kerri. Promise me you'll never hold a grudge against your sister. Okay?"
"Why would I ever anyways? She's dead! It doesn't matter. She's dead because of you!"
Amare shook his head, "It was her choice, Kerri. Respect that. Goodbye, Kerri. Good luck with your future."
He raised his gun to Kerri and she panicked, shooting Amare like he planned on. Amare fell to the ground; dead. Kerri shook and felt dizzy.
Over a hundred agents were arrested that day. Some died when they tried to protect themselves. The police raided the whole bunker but found nothing of use except for the many weapons. It was successful though. None of the force team died, only some were injured and Kerri was satisfied. She was a little shaken, having to actually kill someone. But she was glad she got her revenge.
Desdemona received the package the next day and she read the letter addressed to her.
Dear Desdemona,
I want to thank you for all your hard work and effort you put into this industry. I am sorry for making you suffer so much. I hope you will forgive me. If you don't, it is understandable. Probably by the time you read this, I will be dead. Hopefully, I won't burn in hell. Maybe I will be able to see your father and mother in heaven.
I want you to be with my son. Please, don't hide any longer, be with your family. Don't be scared, they will forgive you eventually. Please keep Rosa safe, and look after Cain. He has been a mess since you 'died'. But most of all, don't forget about Kerri and Hunter.
I give you permission to live in peace now without having to always look over your shoulder. As long as you keep that hard drive safe, you will not be in danger. I don't want you to destroy it but if it is necessary you can. Have a nice life, Desdemona. Live in peace.
You were like my daughter, my dear. I'm sorry for not treating you like it. Please if you would, give the other two letters to Cain and Rosa. They are in Russia right now. The address will be below. Thank you for everything, Desdemona.
- Amare
Desdemona was ecstatic. She was free. She could stop living like this. But she was actually sad Amare was no longer alive. She flashed back to the day she said she would join his killing team again.
"I will join again. But it's under the same conditions. You do not touch anyone I love or I will find a way to destroy you. I have one request though. Or rather a plan that I think would be best for everyone."
"What is it? I will see what I can do."
"Your son, Cain. He loves me. I love him but this must not be. He should not love me and for that, I think I should disappear. Even from Kerri and Hunter. I think they would be better off without me. I know it will hurt them but in the end, she can be detached from this business altogether. I don't want Cain to be in danger because of his feelings, it's way too dangerous."
"I think I can pull that off. It will happen unexpectedly and without notice, I may warn you. Now, to talk about this next hit..."
Now that this was all over, Desdemona knew she could establish her own life and live it. She could grow old without worrying about being murdered. She could die the natural way. She was so excited that she told Maria everything. They headed out the next morning to Russia, where they would find Cain and Rosa.
