Goldpaw still wished that night didn't happen. Bronzepaw wasn't aloud to go to the gathering because of his wounds. Goldpaw's wound is healed enough for her to go. This gathering would be her first one... Well, as an apprentice. She shook her head to push the memory of Graypaw, Darkpaw, and herself sneaking to the gathering. Saphirestar trotted out of her den. She yowled to get everyone's attention.
"Everyone who is going to the gathering, get ready." Saphirestar yowled. She padded over to the gathering cats at the camp entrance. Blacktail nodded, signaling that he was ready. The group of cats ran out of the camp, with Saphirestar leading. Goldpaw began to recognize the path. She smiled to herself, thinking how stupid she was as a kit. Graypaw fell into step with Goldpaw.
"Ha! Remember when we went to the gathering as kits!" Graypaw laughed. "We were so stupid!" Goldpaw laughed as well.
"May I recall the whole person who came up with plan?" Darkpaw's teasing voice sounded behind them. She appeared on Goldpaw's other side. Goldpaw rolled her eyes while smiling. Blacktail and Saphirestar were deep in conversation as they trotted on torward the gathering. Goldpaw looked up at the stars and thought of Starclan. Suddenly, she ran into Gingerclaw, who yelped in surprise.
"Hey!-" Gingerclaw yowled.
"S-sorry!" Goldpaw squeaked. She didn't see that the patrol had stopped.
"It's ok." Gingerclaw meowed and smiled. They both looked at Saphiretstar and waited for the signal. With the flick of Saphirestar's tail, the patrol dashed down toward the Great Rock. Tension hung in the air as they entered the crowd of cats. Goldpaw looked up to find Bloodstar glaring at her brother, Strikestar. At the last gathering, Strikestar had announced his new clan, Strikeclan. Goldpaw shuttered as she imagined having Strikestar as a leader. The powerful tom had bright yellow stripes that seem to glow against his black fur. His yellow eyes burned into his sister's red ones.
"I do believe that all is the same in Shadowclan..." Strikestar growled. "Raising warriors to be weak, I see?" His insult made all Shadowclan gasp.
"Shadowclan is not weak! It is you who is weak!" A Shadowclan apprentice retorted to the tom. Strikestar glared at the apprentice, who shrank away back into the crowd.
"How dare you call my clan weak!" Bloodstar snarled. "I have more warriors than you will ever have! You sick fleabag!" As the siblings spat insults at each other, Blacktail turned to Saphirestar.
"Are you going to stop this? They could end up breaking the truce." Blacktail mumble, glancing at the crowd. "I mean, look! Their warriors look like they are going to pounce on each other."
"Yes, I will." Saphirestar sighed.
She jumped up onto the Great Rock, right in between the two quarling siblings.
"That is enough!" Saphirestar mewed strongly. "You two are acting like bickering kits! You should be ashamed of yourself. You look like you are going to break the truce. Clouds are surrounding the moon!" Every cat look up at the full moon. Goldpaw gasped as clouds gathered around the moon. Starclan was upset!
"I-I'm sorry, Saphirestar." Bloodstar apoligized. "I can't stand it when my brother insults my clan."
"Yes, yes I agree." Saphirestar nodded and turned to Strikestar. "Who do you think you are? Going around, insulting your birth clan?" Strikestar bared his teeth.
"Who do you think you are?" He snarled in her face. "My mother?" Goldpaw bared her teeth as she watched him talk to her mother that way.
"I'm doing what's right." Saphirestar stayed calm.
"Well, I don't care." Strikestar meowed harshly. "Get you, and your mousebrained clan away from me!" Strikestar raked his claws across her face. The whole crowd gasped. Clouds covered the moon and everything went dark. Chaos struck. Goldpaw could here the hissing and yowling of Saphirestar and Strikestar. As Goldpaw's eyes adjusted, she saw Strikestar rake his claws across her mother's face. With a yelp, Saphirestar staggered as Bloodstar hissed. With a roar, Bloodstar snapped at her brother.
"What makes you think you could attack Saphirestar?!" Bloodstar roared.
"I can do what I want!" Strikestar retorted, snapping back. All of the cats around Goldpaw started hissing and growling at each other. Her fur bristled at the thought of being in another battle. Jaystar and Dawnstar were shocked. Graypaw was trembling beside her, eyes as wide as the hidden full moon.
"Goldpaw, I'm scared," He confessed in a whisper. "What if our mother gets really hurt?" Goldpaw thought for a moment. Would she be able to lead the clan correctly? The thought of not having her mother as a leader sent shivers down her spine.
"I don't think we should fight here..." Dawnstar began. Although she always rather hostile toward Crystalclan, she doesn't like to upset Starclan. The pelt of Darkpaw caught Goldpaw's eye. Darkpaw huddled close to her mentor, Frostpelt. She look up to the sky, worried and scared. Frostpelt's eyes were wild with fear. The medicine cats were all shaken up.
Strikestar snapped at Dawnstar. "Shut up! No one cares what you have to say here, fleabag!" Dawnstar bared her teeth. Strikestar turned back to his sister, waiting for her response.
"You know I never loved you." Bloodstar growled. Strikestar smirked.
"Good to know." Strikestar snarled and lauched himself toward her. Spahirestar instantly jumped in front of Strikestar, taking the blow. With a yelp, Saphirestar stumbled. Blacktail yowled, furious. He flung himself at Strikestar. Defensively, Strikestar kicked him away. The crowd of cats stopped threatening each other below and gasped as they saw Blacktail. It seemed as if time slowed down. Slowly, he was falling. Goldpaw shrieked. When Blacktail hit the ground, there was a loud crack, then silence.
