Rizal kept his promise not to escape at Dapitan until he was given serious job by Governor-General Blanco. That was to take him as medical surgeon for the Spanish Army at Cuba (revolution broke out) and help Cubans with yellow fever. Rizal was so happy for this good news and he believed he could be a free man as soon as he left for Cuba. Not only taking as a surgeon, Rizal was intended to study Cuban revolutionary tactics in secret mission. That way, he would go to the Philippines armed with military and guerilla warfare for the Filipinos to liberate them. He learned this from his distant friend and a revolutionary from Cuba also, Jose Marti, until he died in 1895.
