~ First Manila (before Fort Santiago) with my experience
With my friend Laurdie toured me here at bastioned Fuerte de Santiago which was once the actual site of ancient palisaded fort of Rajah Matanda situated on a tongue of land extending from the east to the west between the river and the sea.
The ancient fort had been built on the extreme western end of the sea, at the very entrance of the river. The entrance of Pasig river was fortified with 12 pieces of medium-sized artilleries (yes, pure Filipino) and a few culverins (small bore cannons).
It was built before of coconut logs surrounding a very narrow mound, and pieces of artillery protruded from the gaps in the fort.
