By the time I wiped away the tears and had the ability to breath an hour had passed. No I was not psychic…I could read the clock over the microwave. The kitchen was silent, as was the attached dining room. There was no sound. No music, not even a television was on. I heard footsteps above my head and decided to go anywhere but upstairs…. where those things were.
I circled the house, mansion, castle…. whatever. It was big. I circled it in about 45 minutes. Some doors were locked, and some weren’t. The basement was locked though, which disappointed me. But then I thought about the typical vampire and guessed that was his ‘dungeon.’ So maybe it was a good thing I couldn’t wander inside.
I didn’t see anybody as I was searching. No maids, no butlers. But it was nighttime, which gave me the idea that maybe his staff, if he had one, was human. Which gave me some small spark of hope.
I had found a music room, study, entertainment room and an office. Nothing of interest to me. I never learned how to play anything. The closest I got was third grade, piano. I can do chopsticks! But that pretty much sums it up.
I was now standing at the bottom of the split stairway. I mean split like…beauty and the beast! The staircase goes up and then ends. You can go right to the right wing or left to the left wing. I came down from the left wing… which I am assuming is where they are since I heard them earlier. I guess I could explore the left wing.
And before you ask, “why aren’t you trying to escape?!?!” I already tried the doors. They are heavily locked and alarmed. “Why not the windows?” Nope…tried those too. My only option is to wait for the perfect moment. Until then I was going to know this place inside and out.
I slowly made my way into the left wing. I didn’t need anybody catching me and sending me to Cole.. The hallway was very similar to the other. Very regal. There were paintings from different era’s and other artwork. The floor was hardwood and shined beautifully. I came to a split in the hallway. I chose right this time and came to a set of double doors. The doors were stained glass and showed a story of some sort. There were four panels. The tope left, the beginning of the story, was that of five people. A man, woman, two boys and a baby girl in front of a castle. They stood in a garden was roses and looked happy, well as happy as stained glass could look. The sun was shining as well. The next panel showed the two boys grown, they looked more like teenagers now. They stood side by side, looking at each other in a challenging way. On a stone bench was a girl, but not the baby. This girl was older and had brown hair, unlike the blonde woman and little girl. If you looked very closely, you could see the blonde woman in the castle window, crying.
The next panel was that of the man from the first picture, a little blonde girl and the two boys. The mother was no where to be found. They all looked sad and…angry? The last panel was nothing particular. It was a waterfall…the sun, a heart and a lightening bolt. There were flowers coming from the heart and there were faces, none particular, all at the bottom. This made me very curious and sad at the same time. Obviously this story didn’t have a happy ending.
I opened the doors and pushed them open. Obviously this room hasn’t been used in a while from the amount of dust that came from the room. I coughed and blinked a few times, wiped the water from my eyes.
“Wow.” I stood in awe at the gigantic ballroom. It was like a fairy tale. Not to sound cliché or anything… The room was gigantic, but it didn’t even feel like a room because the walls were made of glass. You could see the starry night outside and a beautiful garden. Looking up I saw the most exquisite replica of the Sistine Chapel. I stepped farther into the room and noticed that one giant window was made of stained glass like the door. It was perfectly positioned so then when the sun rose; it would spray light directly through the stained glass. This picture was the most beautiful of them all.
