Chapter 13

Alex and his father were talking to each other. I quickly moved my head away as to avoid being spotted and I looked at Ky. I mouthed Alex and he nodded. We listened to their conversation. I stuck my head around the corner again.

"She threatened to kill you?" his father said.

"I'm sure she didn't mean it. She just wanted to protect her lover." Alex said.

"And what exactly did her father do to you?" he asked his son.

"He didn't do anything really. He just said how disappointed he was in me."

"You understand now that because of what you did, our contract with Oria is ruined? He probably no longer trusts us anymore after what you did. How could you have done it? You never seemed to be someone to hurt people." Alex put his head down as if he was ashamed.  

"I don't know what I was thinking father." Alex said. "I just hope one day she can forgive me."

"Alex, do you still love her?" Alex hesitated and then nodded. "I don't know if she will take you back but maybe she will. Do you think you two have a chance?"

Alex shook his head. "No. She loves someone else." he said. His father nodded. Alex spotted me then. Crap crap crap. I motioned for Ky to run. He did. But l knew he was still close. Alex and his father appeared at my side. I had no words for them.

"Serena I am so sorry I-" l held up a hand to stop him. "No need to apologize Alex. What's done is done." I said. I walked up to hin so I was a little closer. "Alex, I forgive you." he relaxed and hugged me. 

"Thank you Serena. You have no idea how much that means to me." I hesitated at first but gave in. He was taller than me so my head dug into his chest. "Thank you." he whispered into my ear. We broke apart and I looked at his father.

"The contract with our countries is not broken. It is still intact. We will forget this ever happened and move on."

"But your parents. . ." his father began. "I will take care of it." I said. 

"Thank you. So our countries are at peace again?" 

I nodded. They both relaxed. "Where are you headed?" Alex asked. 

"The gardens. Harry needs me to collect roses for the wedding."

"May I accompany you?" he asked. I hesitated at first but did not show it on my face. I nodded. "I just need to grab my vases. I will be right back. Wait here." I quickly went around the corner and walked over to where I thought Ky was. "Ky?'' I whispered. 

"Here." he whispered. "Here are the vases. I will see you later." he handed me the vases and started to walk away.

"Ky. . ." I said. 

"No. It's fine. I will see you later." he left without another word. I sighed and walked back to Alex and his father with an armful of vases. He reluctantly grabbed half of the vases and with a nod to his father, we started walking. 

The walk to the gardens was quiet. None of us said anything. When we reached the gardens, Alex started talking. "How much of our conversation did you hear?" he asked.

"I heard you talking about my threat to kill you." I answered.

"Did you actually mean that threat?" I shook my head. "No. Of course not. I was just-"

"Upset. I know." he said. By now we had reached the rose bushes. There were gloves, and shears waiting for us. We pulled them on and started cutting. 

Eventually Alex started making small talk. He asked about Steve and the Revenge. I answered as best as I could. 

When we were halfway done, Alex started talking about more serious issues. "So do you still love me?" he asked. I didn't answer. Truth is, I didn't. Not because of what he did to me but because I am in love with someone else. 

I finally answered. "To be honest, I don't love you anymore. You are a great friend but I don't love you in that way."

He looked at me funny. "We'll see about that." He walked up to me and kissed me. I was too shocked to do anything. I regained my bearings and pushed him away. "What the heck do you think you are doing? Why did you do that?" I yelled. But before he could say anything, we heard a twig snap and footsteps start to run away. My legs acted before my brain did. I started running. The person running was a tad faster than me. Maybe because I was in a dress and the person wasn't. Pretty soon, I was appraching the castle entrance. I could see the entrance door and I got a glimpse at who I was chasing. Ky.

"Ky!" I called. "Please stop!" he turned from where he was and looked at me with hurt in his eyes. I caught up to him. He looked at me with so much hurt I didn't know what to do. 

"How could you?" he said very quietly. Before I could answer, he turned around and headed inside. I stood there for a long time. Too shocked to do anything. Thankfully, my legs moved. 

Alex ran up to me when I was in view. "Who was it? Did you see who it was?" I shook my head. I decided to lie. "No. Bring Harry the vases. I have to go." I could barely get those words out. I ran away from Alex and into the castle.
