Chapter 39

Later in the week, I was sitting next to Ky in our unlocked cage when I asked, "What if my plan doesn't work? I told you what happened when Alex and I found the treasure."

"It will work. You have changed so much since then." Ky told me, smiling. I nodded, hoping he was right. It has to work. If it doesn't, then I could get seriously hurt or even killed for that matter. Ky kissed me on the cheek. He grabbed a book that was resting next to him and set it on my lap.

"Can you read to me?" I smiled and nodded. He put his hands behind his head and leaned against the wall. I opened the book and began reading. This book was about my family history. I had no idea that Ky or the captain had this. It talked about my family's crown that has been gone for generations. No one knows where it is. The person who found it was truly the true heir to the throne.

 At one point, I stopped reading because Ky fell asleep. I set the book down and lightly kissed him on the forehead.

"Serena." I didn't even hear the footsteps approach our unlocked cage.

I looked up and saw Chad standing there. He looked exhausted. He had dark circles under his eyes and his clothes were ripped.

"Chad!" I cried, standing up and hugging him. "Are you alright? I haven't seen you at all since we got captured." I said.

"I know. It has been a while. The captain keeps me busy. I must say, I am not use to this work. You let us off easy." he said, smiling at me.

"You're right, I did. Maybe I should go harder on you next time." I teased.

"I'd like to see you try. Listen, are we heading to the island we were just at not to long ago?" Chad asked.

I sighed and nodded. "Yes Chad. I'm so sorry. I lied to you. There is treasure on that island that belongs to my family. I wasn't sure if I could trust yet and-"

Chad held up a hand to stop me from talking. "Say no more. I understand completely and I am not mad at you for keeping it from me. I understand why you lied." he said. "Are we going there because you have a plan?"

I nodded. "Can you guess?" he thought about it for a second then said. "We are suppose to meet Alex and his father tomorrow."

"Bingo."

"You're good, Serena. I must say." he said.

"Thanks. I have my moments." I said. "And don't you worry. If my plan works, we will get out of here."

"I have never doubted you." he said. We heard a grunt and looked over at Ky. He was just waking up.

"Ugh Serena I just had this horrible dream of Steve chasing me and....oh hello Chad." Ky said, finally noticing that Chad was there.

"Hello Ky. I should leave you two alone." Chad said.

"Speaking of Steve, where is he? I haven't seen him anywhere." I asked them.

Ky shrugged. "Don't know don't care. I hope he is dead. Good riddance if he is. I'm so done-"

"Ky!" I said. "Stop. Talking." He winked at me but I just rolled my eyes.

"That little rascal is below deck with Robert. Serena, do you want me to gather your crew for a meeting tonight? So we can tell them what is going on."

"Just gather a couple people that we can trust. Have Edwin, Ky's brother, be there, as well as Robert. Is that alright?" Chad nodded.

"I will let them know. What time?"
