Chapter 8: Weak Ones Die First

"Kenna." I tell him my name.

"Hm." He looks me up and down, tilting his head to the side.

I look at him with a clenched jaw. (Pic above)

"Why do you have blood on all over your self."

Just as I open my mouth to talk, "Wait! Wait! Let me guess." He interrupts my line of thought.

I raise my eyebrows.

"The General asked your friends to join his army... You refused and they kidnapped you. You killed some. Failed to save yourslef. Got brought here, and Talen offered you an empire!"

My mouth drops.

How?

Jake bursts into laughter.

"That's how it always goes!"

"How do you know that?" Heat burns inside of me.

This has happened before!

"I used to the General."

"I shot the General."

"No sh..."

He's cut off by the cell door swinging open.

A lone guard stands with a wood stick and a set of keys.

A stick! I smile to my self.

"Out now!" He points to me.

I step back deeper into the cell. Jake looking at me puzzled. I look at him and give a slight wink.

"Didn't you hear me girl!" The guard steps into the cell. Raising the wood stick to hit me.

He swings the stick at me and I duck.

He hits the wall behind me. Taking his moment of shock, I jab my knee into his stomach.

Seeing an opportunity, Jake runs out the open cell.

"JAKE!" I scream at him.

My hair is grabbed. And I punch the guard in the nose.

He lets go of my hair and lets go off the stick, grabs his nose.

I grab the wood stick and whack the side of his head.

With such a large army, maybe you should put some on guard duty. Or the rest of the army farmers?!

He falls unconscious. I grab the keys from his belt. Walking out the cell I see Jake beating a guard.

Prisoners gather at the cell doors, peeking through the three small bars to watch.

One haulers as the guard Jake was beating gets knocked out.

"Shut up!" I try to quietly yell at him.

I push the keys into the mans cell door and unlock it.

"Wait!" I put my hand up as he tries to run out. "Don't run until everyones freed!"

Theres a back door. I remember seeing it when I first came in. A plan already forming in my head.

Jake follows suit and takes the keys from the other guard and starts freeing the prisoners.

I unlock a cell and a women shoves the door open. Pushing me out if the way. She sprints out towards the stairs.

"NO!" I yell in a whisper. I chasing after her down the dungeon's hall.

She flies up the stairs and takes off down a hall way.

I jump and land on top of her, just as she was about to round a corner.

She lets out a small cry. I cover her mouth my hand. She starts bitting my hand.

She'll give us away!

I grab her chin and the opposite side of her head with my other hand. Jerking her chin to the left and head to the right her neck CRACKS. Her body goes still under me.

One less girl.

The weak ones die first.
