If you ever needed to research something, Crocus was definitely the place to be. Since it was the capital of Fiore, the royal library contained all the information you could ask for. The library was located just inside the castle grounds and was open to the public three days a week. Luckily for me, today was one of those days.
Last night before I left Master's, I explained to him that in order to figure out just how strong Fairy Tail currently is, I needed to learn about the attack that they had survived, therefore I could not be present at the Games today. Of course, that was only half true. My true reasoning behind my new found obsession with Zeref and Acnologia is to figure out a way to get my revenge on the cause of my friends disappearance. Not to mention that sitting back and watching the ones I left behind was hard, so I'd rather not be there.
As I walked along the palace walls, I heard the faint commotion of the Games above my head. I turned the corner entering the courtyard. I stopped and looked up at the large building in front of me.
"Well, lets hope I find what I need." I muttered as I walked up the steps. I opened the doors and was breath taken by what I saw. The book shelves were two stories high and they seems to stretch on forever. With this many books, they have to have something, but yet again, with this many books I would never find what I need. On my left was the front desk with a small old lady sitting behind it, I decided to ask for help, but I needed to be subtle about it.
"Excuse me miss, I was wondering if you had anything on dragons." I asked.
"That depends, are you looking for fictional stories or history about the dragons that once ruled the land." She said, still looking down at the stack of papers on her desk.
"History." I retorted.
"Back left corner, top 3 shelves." She said boredly.
I turned and began to zigzag through the shelves until I finally reached the back corner. From all the dust and the burnt out light bulb, I could tell not many people ever came back here. I grabbed a nearby ladder and placed it along the wall of books. When I reached the top I noticed just how old these books really were. The books were sorted by which elements the dragons used, fire, ice, water, air, that kinda of thing.
After searching for about 20 minutes, I decided that my luck had run out, there was nothing here about Zeref or Acnologia. As I was climbing down the ladder, a tattered old book caught my eye about halfway done the shelf. I grabbed the book and looked at the cover, which said E.N.D. Aside from being extremely old, I realized that this wasn't a library book, it seemed that someone just decided to put it here. I looked around me in order to make sure nobody was looking and slide the book into my bag, curious to learn just what was in this book.
FEW HOURS LATER
I was sitting outside at a cafe near the center of the city with Sting and Rogue. The part of the Games that was currently going on was a 1 v 1 battle with people from other guilds, therefore we really didn't have to be there. As much as I loved being with Sting and Rogue, all I really wanted to do was read that mysterious book.
"Brooke...Helllloooo anyone home?" I heard Sting say.
"Sorry, what?" I replied, coming back to reality.
"I asked what you did today, since you weren't at the games." Sting repeated.
"Did some sightseeing." I answered nonchalantly.
"Cut the crap, we both know that you aren't one for sightseeing." Sting replied, scooting his chair closer to me.
"Fine, whatever." I said." I can't go into detail, but remember that Master gave me the task of Sabertooth's secret weapon against Fairy Tail, well let's just say it had to do with that."
"Always so secretive." Rogue muttered from across the table.
"Rogue's right, we've knowing you for half a year and barely know anything about you. Whenever we ask you anything we always get bland answers. Why can't you be honest with us?" Sting shouted the last part, standing up in the process.
Standing up, I yelled back, "Well at least I'm honest with myself. You and Rogue like to pretend that you could care less about Natsu and Gajeel, but in reality you are both two little fanboys who do everything you can to please them." Seeing the stunned look on their faces, I turned and ran towards the outskirts of the city, back to the park that I came across the night before.
Feisty! I hope you enjoyed this weeks chapter! Things are starting to get intense, I promise! Anyway, same time next week?
