The Bond Between Swords (Kirito x Reader)

It was only a few months that you were stuck inside of the virtual world of Sword Art Online, but you had already accepted that it would be your new life. Each day you seeked to get stronger and stronger, not bothering to make friends in fear that they would die.

Your latest goal was to conquer the 37th floor, but after weeks of trying to beat the boss, it seemed hopeless. You tried your luck with teaming up with guilds to help defeat the boss but every time, so many people were left dead while the boss was still standing. After a while, you gave up with trying to have a guild as backup, everyone there was useless. You were going to take on the boss yourself.

You walked through the doors that led to the boss and braced yourself for the worse. Death was sure to come if you tried facing this alone but you still needed to try. The virtual prison made you stronger and braver than you ever were in the real world.

As you stood in the middle of the room, the boss suddenly appeared in front of you. You gulped; he seemed a lot bigger and stronger than the last time you saw him. You pushed your fear down and drew out your sword. You charged at the beast as it swung its axe at you which you barely managed to dodge. It was definitely a lot faster than you remember.

You landed a blow to its foot, leg, arm, and anything else that came into target all the while trying to dodge the beast's blows. You watched it's health trickle down slowly, but it still wasn't enough. You tried to stab it where there were chinks in its armor, but before you could make contact, the boss' hand swipes you away from him, sending you flying in the air until you hit the ground. The blow wasn't enough to kill you but it was enough to make your health bar go down a lot.

That was it. There was no way you were going to be able to defeat the boss on your own and there was no way of getting out of the fight. No matter what you did, you were going to die. You stood up and prepared to charge at the boss one last time but someone else beat you to it. A guy dressed in all black attacked the boss while you were getting to your feet. No one else was with you when you arrived, he must have snuck in while you were in battle!

You couldn't help but be angered by this guy's actions. You wanted to defeat the boss on your own but he just had to come to steal the glory. He'll probably just end up getting killed.

You watched him as he charged the boss at an extremely fast speed, you weren't even able to see his movements. He stabbed and slashed at the beast while the latter was unable to land any full-on blows to its opponent. The guy moved with such speed and power that you couldn't help but be amazed. You were already able to tell he was a lot stronger than you were.

Finally snapping out of your daze, you rushed into action to help the guy. Yes, he was powerful, but you didn't think he could finish off the demon all on his own. The both of you lunged and slashed at the beast, working together like a perfect team even though you didn't even know each other. When the boss was down to red health, you delivered the final blow, causing the boss to die and opening the passage to the 38th floor.

The guy nodded at you in acknowledgement and then proceeded to walk towards the newly opened passage.

"Wait!" you called after him. He turned around and gave you a questioning look. "Don't you want part of the prize money?"

"You were the one who killed the boss, you keep the money," he told you.

"I wouldn't have been able to defeat it if you didn't show up. I probably would've been dead," you told him honestly. "What's your name? I'll give you your half."

"Really, it's fine. Keep it," he said again before turning back around.

"Fine. But at least tell me your name. After all, you did practically save my life."

"My name's Kirito," he said after some hesitation.

"Thank you, Kirito, for helping me. My name's (F/N)," you told him.

"(F/N)," he said like he was trying to memorize it. "I'm looking forward to seeing you again. I'd like to battle beside you another time."

For some reason, those words left you feeling happy. For the first time, you had finally made a friend inside the virtual world of Sword Art Online.
