Third Person POV:
December 31, 20XX
It was a cold winter's night. Almost midnight as Kazuto stood next to a huge hill with a long set of stairs where would lead both Asuna and him to pray and celebrate for their New Year's Eve.
As Kazuto waited for Asuna, he could see his breath in the air. That was how cold it was that night. Kazuto hoped Asuna, knowing she would probably wear a beautiful kimono on their date, would wear something warm enough to shield from the cold.
Not wanting to be the only one stunned to see her in a kimono, he decided to wear one as well. So he dug through his closet and found an old kimono that he previously owned, but remembered the last time he wore one was from when he was 14. This particle one, was now too small. It's been a few years since the last time he went to celebrate New Year's Eve at the shrine. The last time he went was the year before Aincrad and he was with his family. Reminiscing the past. He decided to make amends for the past years of missing out on New Year's Eve and wanted to spend it with the most important person to him, Asuna.
He went to ask his mother if she happened to have anymore kimonos stored away for him to wear in the near future. His mother's eyes sparkled as she heard him say that he wanted to wear a kimono on his date with Asuna to the shrine. She went into the old storage in the back of the house and found a kimono that she planned to give to him once he awaken from Aincrad. She happily handed him the kimono and said, "Hope you like it. I give it some extra thought."
"Thanks Mom. I appreciate it." He smiled as he hugged her.
"Let me know what Asuna thinks of it. I just know she's going to like it." She smiled. "So when's the big day, kiddo?" she teased. "She's going to be my daughter-in-law someday, right?"
Kazuto blushing all red. "What! I huh ..." trying to think of something to change the subject. "I can't answer your question right now because I'm going to get changed into my new kimono now. Bye Mom." He said as he planned on rush to his bedroom.
Before he left the room, his mother told him that both her and Suguha would be out for the night and won't be back until January 2nd. Kazuto nodded and left to get changed and to meet up with Asuna at the shrine.
Once Kazuto arrived at the shrine. All there was left was to wait for his princess. As he waited, he was fiddling with an omamori or amulet charm that he purchased for Asuna, the day before. There were many kinds of omamori at the shop he went to. Overall, they did the same thing, they brought good luck to the bearer and ward off bad luck on certain occasions. Kazuto put in extra thought in which omamori to give Asuna. After some thought, he decided to get her the yaku-yoke – the omamori that wards off and avoidance of evil. In his own way saying, the amulet will protect you, when I'm not here by your side.
As Kazuto was waiting for Asuna. Asuna was in a car on her way to the shrine. Thinking to herself how come she was running late on her date with Kazuto.
Flash Back December 30, 20XX (Third POV):
On a previous day from today, Asuna was out shopping with Liz. The two of them happen to be shopping for omamori. Liz was eyeing on the en-musubi – the omamori that represented luck in finding a mate; that ensures love and marriage. She sighed at the thought of her relying on a love amulet would solve all of her problems.
Asuna laughed teasingly, "Don't worry Liz. I'm sure that you'll find someone this upcoming year." Trying to comfort her best friend.
Liz glared at Asuna. "Yeah. Yeah. Sure. Sounds easy from someone who already has a boyfriend." Liz looked at the amulet one last time. Hesitating on whether she should buy it or not. She then looked over to Asuna, "So which one are you going to get Kazuto?"
