Chapter 27: Midnight Exchange

First Half of A/N:

Hey guys here's a quick note and a bit of a sneak peek/preview of the new chapter. I did some research and I find out that the neither the anime or any other web source has ever mentioned the date of Yui's birthday. I had a couple of dates in mind, but I decided to go with what I wrote in this version. Enough of A/N, please enjoy reading the new chapter.

Third Person's POV:

Oct 20, 20XX

At night; passed midnight:

Asuna was in bedroom, asleep, until her conscious began to stir. She slowly arose from the bed and couldn't shake off a concern feeling in her head. It's been bothering her the last few days, but even she didn't know how to put it into words yet. She considered consulting with Kazuto about it soon. Since it was something she felt was important for the two of them to discuss together. Asuna then looked over at her pink colored alarm clock and saw that it was past midnight. After making up her mind that she wouldn't be going back to bed anytime soon.

Asuna stretched out her arms and noticed that Kazuto wasn't in bed yet. Feeling a bit concerned, she scanned across the bedroom and noticed light peeking through under the doorway that lead to the living room.

There, she figured Kazuto must've been working in the living room. Asuna pulls off the front covers and gets up from the bed. She walks over to the door and slowly opens it. She originally wanted to only peek, but wasn't able to see anything. So she opened the door completely. There she found Kazuto working on his laptop. She safety assumed he was finishing up a final project for class.

Asuna couldn't help watch him from afar, 'He's worked so hard to get this far', she smiled.

Kazuto was so focused on finishing his paper that he didn't notice Asuna standing by the bedroom doorway. Eventually, he turned around once he felt someone was staring at him from behind. He smiled seeing it was Asuna. "Hey, sorry. Did I wake you?" he asked.

Asuna shook her head, "No, I woke up on my own." she answered as she leaned into the door frame, "How far are you on your paper?"

"I actually just finished it. I had to write up a 15 paged paper on the theories in Mechatronics. I should go over the paper one time though."

"I know you should, but it's past midnight. I don't think it'll be good for you to stay up too late." Kazuto give it some thought, but before he could reply, "Besides," as Asuna went on as she twirled a thin strand of hair around her finger, "wouldn't you rather come to bed with me?" she said as she cutely tilted her head "... and it's so cold without you holding me." she teased. Hoping it would convince him.

Kazuto blushed then became flustered after noticing that Asuna was wearing one of his black shirts and a pair of navy blue short shorts. "Are you wearing that to bed?" he couldn't help ask.

"Well, I've been wearing it this whole time." she answered.

Kazuto couldn't help put on a goofy grin, "I'll be there soon, give me a minute." Asuna happily returned to the bedroom as Kazuto quickly saved his paper and carefully shut off his laptop. After he put everything away, he hurried off to the bedroom.

Once he got past the doorway, he saw his princess, waiting for him under the covers. He hurried over to his side of the bed, controlling his urge to already jump into the bed. Once he tucked himself underneath the covers, he pulled himself closer towards Asuna and she did the same.

Adjusting themselves on the bed, Asuna lied her head on top of Kazuto's chest. As Kazuto wraps his arms around her and simply takes in her presence.

As much as the couple enjoyed the others company, Kazuto could tell something else was on Asuna's mind. He didn't want to push her to say anything until she was ready to talk about it with him, but then he ended up not waiting for long, "Hey Kirito."

"Yeah Asuna?"

Asuna slowly got up and Kazuto followed afterward. The couple now sat up on the bed as Kazuto eagerly listened in to Asuna, "There's something I want to talk about. It's important."

"Sure, what's up?" he said as he gave Asuna his full attention.

"I was thinking about something, it's about Yui."

"Yui? What about Yui?"

"Yui ... she's our daughter. Our child. No matter what. It's not just me, right?" as small tears began to form within the corner of her eyes. "You feel the same, too. Right Kirito?"

Kazuto nodded as he gently wiped away her tears. "No matter what anyone says. She's ours. Yui will always be our precious little girl."

"I'm glad to hear that." she smiled.

"So, what bought this up though?" Kazuto asked with much concern.

"Sorry." she apologized. "I didn't mean to make it into a bigger fuss than it needed to be, but it's been bothering me that we've haven't established a birthday for Yui yet." Kazuto's eyes widen after realizing it as well, but then continued to listen. "So I've been thinking, since our anniversary is coming up. I thought it would be nice to celebrate it with the three of us, together, as a family. What do you think?" she asked.

Kazuto nodded and immediately replied with, "Yeah. I think that sounds great." Asuna smiled as Kazuto continued on, "Now that you mention it. You're right about not having a birthday date in mind for her yet, but doesn't mean we can't do it now." he assured her.

Finally, a real genuine smile appears on her face, "So something that the family can do together, what should we do?"

After thinking about it so some time. Kazuto replied, "How about in ALO we do a quest? Together as a family?"

Asuna give in some thought and smiled, "I'd like that and it sounds like a lot fun. What kind of quest should we do?"

"I'll have to check and log into the quest log. It's been awhile since I last checked."

"Let's go visit Yui tomorrow as well too. We'll find some more ideas to do as a family."

"Sounds like a plan." he said as he kissed her on the cheek. "Good night Asuna."

"Good night Kirito."

Second Half of A/N:

Let me first start off with thanking and apologizing to my readers for being patience with me. It's been a rough three-to-four months and I fear for it will get worse as time goes on. I'm okay, I promise. There's a lot of personal conflicts and issues I have to attain, but I was HAPPY and GLAD (and relieved) to get this chapter out and updated.

So yes, the next chapter will be a cute fluffy family anniversary/birthday chapter. Kazuto and Asuna will be celebrating their anniversary in the virtual world with their AI daughter Yui. I have a couple of quest ideas ... you may see references from the Sword Art Online Game Hollow Fragment and Hollow Realization. I personally don't play, but I enjoy watching other people play them.
