I wait in a small room, for my mother and sister to visit me for the last time. A tear rolls down my eye, but I quickly wipe it away, trying to hide my feelings.
Soon, the door opens, and Prim and Mother enter the room. Prim runs over to me and sobs. "Katniss! Don't leave." Big tears run down her face. "Don't leave!" I give her a fierce hug, trying to hold the feeling of her embrace.
I release her from the hug, get on my
knees, and put my hands on her shoulders. "Prim, I need you to be brave. You need to find food. You can sell your goat cheese and milk. But whatever you do, don't put yourself in more risk by putting your name more in the bucket." Prim nods her head, sniffing. She grabs the necklace that I had given her earlier this morning, reaches over my head, and puts it on me."It's for you Katniss, to protect you." I hug Prim again, and kiss her forehead.
When I let go of her, I get to my feet, and go to Mother.
"You CANNOT leave again, you understand?" I speak harshly.
Mother nods. "I-I won't. I'll sell my medicines to get along."
I nod, hoping she keeps her word. "Good." I give my mother a light, quick hug. A peacekeeper, who is a soldier that supposedly keeps the peace, comes in to lead Prim and Mother out.
Prim starts to cry again, calling my name, begging me not to go, and I'm forced to hear her pleads until the doors close.
My fingers come together in a nervous wreak, unable to stay still. My hands slap my face slightly, wishing I was in a bad nightmare, and that I will wake up, and Prim will be by my side.
The door comes open again, and I come back to reality. I look up to see who my visitor is. And it's Gale.
"Gale!" My heart skips at beat at the unexpected visitor. I run to him and give him a tight hug. We in a hug for a minute then we releases me.
"Kat, remember that you need to be a competitor. If you don't do something right, you will be eliminated. And..."
He puts his hand behind his neck. "Be careful. Ok?"
I nod, a tear coming down my eye. Gale wipes it off, and hugs me again.
"I was the one what was supposed to take your virginity."
My eyes widened in surprise. I stop the hug, and look at Gale. "What?" My voice squeaks.
"Katniss...." All of a sudden, a Peacekeeper comes in and takes Gale away, leaving me broken. He had loved me. But now, there's nothing that can be done. Nothing.

I board the train to head to the Capitol, with my palms sweating. I'm trying to act brave, act unaffected. When I see Peeta, I see he's trying to do the same. His body is stiff and seemingly unaffected, but his eyes are afraid, and worried. I understand exactly how he feels.
When we head inside the train. Suddenly, the door closes behind us, preventing us from escaping. Which I should have thought of earlier. The train starts to move, and I take a peek outside the window, surprised how fast we are going, but how I barely feel a thing
I stand awkwardly next Peeta. I turn to him, looking at him right in the eyes. I study him for a second. This face is nicely shaped, not round, but not extremely thin, his hair is a dusty blonde, and he has dark blue eyes.
Peeta opens his mouth to speak, but I interrupt him. "Lets go inside."
With that, I walk inside, leaving Peeta behind me.
I walk over to a closed door. All of a sudden, the doors opens, sliding to opposite sides. I cautiously walk through them and keep walking. I enter a room in the train, and my eyes go wide.
Inside the room is a big, long table, with nothing on it. But next to it, is another table, with food, lots of it.
I hear Peeta come behind me, and gasp slightly. He walks ahead of me and runs his hand against the table full of food. I walk slowly up to the table also, grabbing a piece of chicken, treating myself to a taste.
"Mmmm." I moan because of the delicious food. I've never tasted this type of chicken before, well cooked and crispy. I close my eyes to savor the flavor. But when I open them, I see Peeta staring at me. I lift an eyebrow. "What?" I give him a weird look. "Look, if you want to try one, just take it." I grab a piece of chicken and hand it to him.
"I um.... never mind." He grabs the chicken and starts to eat it, his eyes lighting up.
I roll my eyes, just when Effie walks into the room.
"Why hello!" She walks over to me and gives me a tight side hug. "How are my tributes?" She gives a wide smile, like it's all fun and games.
"Lovely." I give her a fake smile, grabbing another piece of food.
I look Peeta's way, and see him try to hide a laugh. I roll my eyes again.
"Whhheeere is the foooddd??"
All of a sudden, a slurred voice fills the room. A man, with hair like Peeta's, walks into the room with a wine bottle in hand. He slams the bottle down on the empty table, gets a plate, and starts to fill his plate up with the delicious food. Me and Peeta stare at him, as he sits down, grabs the wine glass again, and take another long drink. It takes him a while to notice that we're here.
He looks up at me and Peeta. "Who are youuu?" He slams the wine bottle down on the table again.
Effie steps up and leads us both to the man. "Haymitch," She says sweetly. "These are this year's tributes." She points at me. "Katniss," then to Peeta, "and Peeta."
Haymitch stands up, with wobbly legs. "Nice to.... meet..." And before he can finish his sentence, he promptly faints.
Effie fans her face. "Oh my!" She starts to (or tries to) run in her high heel shoes. "I must go get someone to take him to his bedroom!" And she's gone.
And I start to laugh. "Wow! He's going to have the biggest hangover." Peeta chuckles a little. "Yah. He was the winner of the Games a few years ago."
My face goes in shock. "Really?" A plan starts to brew in my mind. "Maybe.... he can give us some tips about the Games."
Peeta smirks as he watches some bodyguards carry Haymitch off.
"Well, you're going to have to wait a while. He seems a bit..." He uses his finger to twirl it around his head. And with that, he walks away, chuckling.

(Note: Don't except this book to be close to the original series. I'm just using the same character names, the whole volunteering for tribute, and some scenes. Its the same concept, but not the same story. The games will be different, and the training also. It's a whole different type of games.)
