Chapter six
Danielle looked out the window. The big movers van was still parked next to her house.
“Mummy who is that?” Ronan asked.
“I dunno, I think someone has moved in into that empty house next to us.” Danielle looked out of the window again.
She saw a young woman, maybe around thirty, and a seven or six year’s old girl standing next to her. But she didn’t see the husband.
“Who is she?” Ronan asked pointing at the little girl.
“I don’t know them. But we will, soon.”
Danielle picked Ronan up and went downstairs. She was hanging out with Ronan in her room, with the air conditioner on. The days now were getting hotter, and Ronan couldn't stand the heat.
Danielle went outside to greet them.
“Hi!” Danielle said to the woman.
“Oh, hi!” the woman smiled. “Do you live next to us?”
“Yes, we do.” Danielle beamed. “Are you moving in here? Where do you come from?”
“Oh, we’re from New Jersey.”
“Wow, that’s far. Why are you moving here?”
“Well, long story short, I just got divorced with my husband, and we didn’t want to be anywhere near each other.”
“Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.” Danielle bit her lips.
“That’s okay.” The woman smiled. “Men are always like that. Recent data shows that first marriages last no longer than five years.”
Danielle swallowed hard. Five years? Ronan is four!
“So what's your name? I'm Emma, Emma Gonzalez.”
“I'm Danielle Chance.” They shook hands.
“Oh wait, the Danielle Chance? Wife of Greyson Chance?” Emma asked in disbelief. “Omg I am so honored to meet you! I’ve heard so much about you!”
“Well, being a celebrity’s wife does get you on the news a lot.” Danielle laughed.
“And who is this?” Danielle asked, kneeling down next to Emma. The little girl was standing next to her, holding on tightly to her skirt.
“Come on tell your name.” Emma told her.
“I'm Ruth.” Ruth said shyly.
Danielle smiled. “You’re beautiful. I like you.”
“I like your dress.” Ruth said in reply.
Emma laughed. “She likes everyone’s dress. And is this your son Ronan?” she pinched Ronan softly on the cheek. “He is so cute!”
“He sure is.” Danielle said. “Hey, why don’t you come over to our house some times, and we could have a chat over a cup of coffee or something?”
“Sure. I’d love that.” Emma answered.
“And bring Ruth with you, I'm sure she would like to play with Ronan.”
“Of course.” Emma smiled.
Danielle waved goodbye at them and went back inside the house.
“Looks like we have friends now, don’t we Ronan?”
“She doesn’t like me.” Ronan pouted.
“Who said so? You haven’t even talked to her yet.” Danielle said.
Ronan made a face at her. Danielle laughed.
She hugged Ronan tightly. “I'm sure we’ll have a lot of fun after this.”
Ronan squirm in her hold. She put Ronan down on the floor. Immediately he ran back upstairs to resume his game with his cars and robots.
Danielle sighed.
Thank you god, for giving me someone to talk to. Danielle said to herself. I guess life wouldn’t be so lonely anymore after this.
