Justin and I spent the rest of the day playing in the pool and relaxing in the warmth of the sun. Justin acted like the prankster he was rightfully dubbed, throwing me in the pool and dunking me under water. He was constantly close to me, making contact with my skin like a needy child hanging off their mother. I think the realness that we had established between each other was something comforting that he had experienced little with outsiders. Though I had only spent a small amount of time with Justin, we clicked instantly and I felt like I had known him all my life. A lasting friendship was definitely developing, if not something more.

We were so absorbed in each other that time was no longer a factor and we had long past lunch and dinner by the time the sun set and my stomach started growling. Justin and I were lounging on the poolside chairs and he was engrossed in a text which, from where I sat, looked to be a couple paragraphs long and something that was getting him riled up. He pressed send and I heard the final 'bwoop'' as the message was transferred. Justin sighed loudly and flipped over onto his stomach resting his head on the cushioned chair and stretching his arms above his head, phone still in hand. He didn't look at me, instead he cast his eyes downward zoning out. As much as I wanted to know who that text was to and what it was about I figured that if he didn't start the conversation about it, than it was something he didn't feel the need to discuss.

He remained in his trance for a good couple of minutes and the only sound between us was our breathing and the water lapping against the pool walls. I checked the time on my phone, seeing that it was 6:30 pm and reminding myself of my hunger. I rolled over on my left side facing Justin and broke the silence.

"Hey, it's getting sorta late, I should probably head home and get some dinner." Justin glazed over eyes seemed to light up again and he propped his head up so that he was making eye contact with me.

"Are you sure? You can stay here and I can cook us something. And you can borrow some of my clothes to wear if you want." He smiled big at me and I couldn't say no.

"Okay that's fine. My parents won't be home tonight anyways so they won't mind." Hearing that, Justin sat up quickly and was suddenly overcome by energy, leaving his depressed mood behind. He grabbed my hand pulling me behind him into the house. We passed through the living room back into the foyer and continued up the staircase to the second floor.

"The bathroom is right there," he pointed down a hallway branching off from the stairs, "wait there for a second while I grab you something to wear." I made my way to the bathroom as Justin raced the opposite way into his bedroom. I took my time, checking out the rest of his house; the bathroom was on the left side of the hallway, three fourths of the way down. On the right side there were several bedrooms and a linen closet. The first bedroom I passed was pretty much empty, there was a couple of boxes in there, probably ones left unpacked from when he first moved in which was understandable considering he was one person living in a home with a multitude of bedrooms. The second bedroom however, had a bed on the opposite wall, freshly made with white sheets and a simple white duvet. I scanned the room with my eyes, taking in the dark wood furniture, tan walls, and big windows on either side of the bed. I was admiring the view the room had of his backyard when I caught sight of something peculiar. Next to the bed was a pair of worn black converse and above that, a braided silver bracelet sat on the bedside table. I stepped into the room to try and get a better look at the two items, but I heard Justin making his way back out of his room so I quickly turned and crossed the hall into the bathroom. His footsteps became louder as he got closer and eventually he reached the bathroom, passing through the doorway holding a pair of red flannel pajama pants and a white v-neck.

"Here you go, I think most of it should fit, I picked the smallest clothes in my closet." I blushed thinking of him picking clothes out for me. I reached out and excepted the offer but I realized that unless I was going to opt to keep my swim suit on, I had nothing to wear under it. I wasn't sure whether I should just go without or let Justin know. Figuring I didn't need the bathroom because I wasn't changing out of anything, I bent down and pulled the pajama pants over my feet.

"Oh yeah," Justin started again, stopping me before I could finish pulling the pants up, "if you want to change out of your swim suit stuff, my mom stays over sometimes so she leaves some clothes in the dresser over there." he gestured to the room with the converse and bracelet. He blushed, probably a little uncomfortable with the situation. "I'll just, uh, head downstairs." My cheeks burned as he retreated down the stairs but curiosity overcame me, and with his permission I headed into the room that held the two mystery items. The carpet muffled my steps as I slowly entered the room, afraid I was going to get caught even though I could hear Justin downstairs belting out some rendition of an unrecognizable R&B song. The setting sun filtered into the room casting square shadows in the shape of the big windows across the floor and white bed. The sunlight glinted off of the silver bracelet reminding me why I was there in the first place. I crossed the room to the left side of the bed first running into the black converse. Leaning down I picked them up and inspected the shoes. They were clean but worn, with hastily untied laces and small black doodles on the side. They weren't very noticeable but they seem to be little thoughts jotted down, like whoever wore these shoes was without paper when they popped into their head. I set down the shoes back to their original place, facing away from the bed, and I moved on to the bracelet. I picked up the piece of jewelry and ran my fingers over the braided silver. It was pretty thin in width but it had enough space to fit a small engraving on the inside. I held the bracelet closer to my face to see what was written in the bracelet and I saw two words carved in a delicate cursive. It said "My Angel".

The engraving was such a generic statement that I had no idea who the bracelet might belong to. Considering it was a feminine piece of jewelry and the converse seemed too small to fit any male's feet, I figured a girl had stayed in this bedroom recently. Justin had said some of Pattie's things were in here for when she stayed over, and I hoped that was who these items belonged too, but in the back of my mind I had a doubt. Pattie was petite, so I'm sure she could fit in those shoes, but I didn't believe the bracelet belonged to her. The saying and the appearance of the fresh silver gave me a hunch that this was something new and intended for a child rather than a mother.

Suspicions and curiosity aside, I had a boy waiting to make me dinner downstairs and I wasn't going to spend valuable time worrying about some girl that may have been in Justin's house not to long before me. So, putting the bracelet back in its original spot and marching past the shoes on the floor, I grabbed some additional items out of the dresser, changed quickly into Justin's comfortable (and very nice smelling) clothes and headed downstairs. Knowing his focus would be on me for the rest of the night, and attempting to focus my attention back on him, I tried to push the thought of another girl pining for Justin's affection, and staying in his house, behind me. It was much more difficult than I expected.
