We pulled up to the drive thru of McDonald's after a crazy fun drive through the Californian hills.
Justin had let me drive as fast as I wanted and go wherever I wanted, even in his car. I loved
seeing him that way; happy and carefree. All I had seen before was the person the media made
him out to be. Not being a diehard fan, I didn't know that he lived life like a normal teenager, and
every moment with him made me like the Justin I had found even more.
The sun was almost completely set now, the pink hues draining from the sky, being replaced by
the dark curtain of night. I inched towards the drive thru speaker as carefully as I could manage
without scratching or wrecking Justin's car. Yeah I had gotten it here safely but I don't know what
made him think it would be a good idea to let me drive his car, I had only gotten my license last
year.
Justin pulled me back to reality asking "Can you order me a Big Mac?"
"Yeah, sure." I grabbed my bag and started to dig through it. I had grabbed it from my closet and
completely forgotten to put my wallet inside, which I was now realizing as I fished my hand
around but found nothing inside. I slowly pulled my hand out and tried to figure out what I was
going to do now. I couldn't just not order food, I was the one who had made Justin come here in
the first place. I mustered up some courage and broke the news to Justin.
I don't have any money for my meal. I thought I brought some but I forgot" I felt kind of
embarrassed; I was the one asking to go out to dinner and I couldn't even pay for my own food.
I looked down avoiding Justin's eyes.
"You didn't think I was going to make you pay for your dinner right?" He actually laughed. He
found the situation funny.
"I don't know," I was somewhat relieved, "I mean we're not on a date so I didn't expect you to." I
looked up at him.
"Hey, I was supposed to show you around California and make you feel at home! This is part of
that. Besides I wouldn't make you pay for your own dinner no matter the situation. I was raised by
a smart woman and she taught me to be a gentleman, especially around beautiful ladies." He gave
me his grin, the one that brightens the entire room.
"Fine." I said, turning towards the window to order and trying to act like he didn't make me weak
at the knees from the amount of charm he has. I ordered our food, took the money from Justin's
hand and drove up to the window to pay. As I glided forward, Justin switched his SnapBack
forward and pulled it over his eyes. I assumed it was a measure taken to make sure no one
noticed who he was or the fact that I was riding with him. It was almost saddening seeing him
deal with this, I knew that he didn't choose this life, he did it so that he could do what he loved
and please his fans, I loved that. After paying and receiving our food, Justin's hat resumed its
original position and he began to dig into his food. I figured I would just eat my burger once I got
home so I could continue to focus on getting his car back in one piece.
It was pretty late when we arrived back at my house, only a few lights were visible through the
windows and my eyelids were starting to get heavy. I turned off the car and opened my door to
leave, Justin following suit. I thought we would just switch places, say goodbye, and go back to
our separate homes, but he kindly waited for me to come around the car and followed me to the
door.
"Well, this is my stop." I mumbled when we reached the front door. "Thanks for showing me
around, it was really fun." I tried my hardest not make the moment more awkward than it needed
to be by rambling so I held still and eyed Justin.
"Yeah, no problem. I'll text you and hopefully we can hang out again soon, I'm right next door so
that makes it easy." He backed off the steps, smiled at me and said goodbye. I watched him walk
back to the car and waved as he backed out of the driveway. I had an interesting night to say the
least but I hoped it would be the first of many.
