Anne was completely zoned out as a nurse took blood from both her and Steve. Her thoughts drifted to Dr. Erskine who was now dead. Because his serum was gone and he wasn't here to help recreate it, everyone believed it was best if they took some of the super soldiers' blood, believing that the only way to create more super soldiers was in their DNA.
Anne was taken out of her thoughts when the nurse took the needle out of her arm. "That enough?" Steve asked as he rolled down the sleeve of his shirt. The nurse nodded and Anne sighed in relief as she gently rubbed the area she had just gotten the blood taken from. She always had hated getting her blood drawn.
"Any hope in reproducing the program is locked in your genetic code. Without Dr. Abraham, that could take years," Peggy told the two as soon as the nurse left the room. Anne didn't even glance at the girl as she looked at her hands and muttered, "He deserved more than this." Steve and Peggy looked at her sadly, but she ignored them.
"If it could work only twice, he would be proud of you two," Peggy said before gently giving Anne's shoulder a squeeze. Anne gave her a weak smile before standing up from the table. Steve immediately walked over to her and gave her a small side hug as they began walking out of the room.
Peggy then directed them downstairs to where a man was talking to Colonel Phillips and Mr. Stark. "Hydra is the Nazis deep science division. It's lead by Johann Schmidt but he has much bigger ambitions," Peggy said.
Anne sighed and stopped listening to the conversation. Anne started to think about Dr. Erskine again. He had been so kind to them and given them a chance and how was he repaid? He got killed.
Steve glanced down at the girl and noticed that she seemed to be staring off into space. He lightly tapped her shoulder and she blinked before looking up at him. "You okay?" Steve whispered. "He shouldn't have died," Anne replied. "I know, but there was nothing we could have done," Steve told her. Anne just sighed and stared down at the ground.
"We're going to London tonight. Pack your bags Agent Carter. You too, Stark," Anne heard Colonel Phillips say. Anne's head immediately snapped up. He didn't mention her and Steve.
"If you're going after Schmidt, I want in," Anne snapped. "Me too," Steve said. "You two are experiments. You two are being moved to somewhere else," Colonel Phillips told them. "The serum worked," Steve pointed out.
"I know. But all I've got is you two. And you two aren't enough," Colonel Phillips said. Anne's blood started to boil. "Not enough?" Anne asked angrily. Steve placed a hand on her shoulder to calm her down. "I'd watch your mouth before you say something you regret," Colonel Phillips told her.
Anne gritted her teeth and didn't say anything else. Colonel Phillips gave the two a small nod and glanced in Anne's direction one more time before turning around and walking away.
The man who had been talking to Colonel Phillips walked up to the two. "With all due respect to the Colonel, I think we may be missing the point. I've seen you two in action. More importantly, everyone's seen it. Paper," the man told his assistant.
The man was handed a newspaper which he showed to Anne and Steve. The headline read, 'Nazis In New York. Mystery Man and Woman Save Child.' "You two have hit the news stands. You don't take two soldiers, a symbol like that, and hide them in a lab. You two want to serve your country in the most important battle field of the war?" The man asked.
