Flashing lights penetrated the curtain separating us from the actual red carpet. There was a buzz of voices, and screams of some fans of people walking down the carpet right now.
My breaths were shallow. I had never been good in front of crowds, and this was no exception. Blinding flashes of camera, illuminating my every flaw, shining into my core, made me feel like they were cold, menacing, waiting for a chance to snap a shot of me even looking the wrong way, so everyone would lose their minds.
I took a deep, shuddering breath, and wheezed it out. Niall hugged me from behind, his palms resting on my hips.
"Mattie, love. It'll be alright."
I turned so my mouth was hovering over his neck. My hands clutched his shoulders, gripping them so hard my fingertips turned white. "Niall, baby, I'm going to look like a fool." I muttered, breathing in his oaky scent. He pulled me tighter to his body. The sequins on my dress scratched my hips, and Niall's burning warmth instantly soothed them.
I felt him lean down to whisper into my ear. "Mattie, you're smart, funny, beautiful, amazing, witty, sarcastic, sassy, loud, outstanding and absolutely, tee-totally without-a-doubt perfect, and no matter what you look like, no matter what you say or do, you will never, ever, look like a fool." He kissed my neck softly, making me weak in my knees.
He pulled away too quickly, and brushed a curl out of my face. "Alright?" he said, a twinkle in his eye. He knows what effect he has on me. I rolled my eyes but nodded slightly.
He chuckled and stepped back. "Good. Now tell me, how do I look?" Niall struck a girly supermodel pose, which caused me to burst out laughing. He winked before posing again.
I suppressed a giggle, and put on a mock serious face. "Oh, Niall. Darling! You look absolutely fabulous!" I snapped my fingers three times in a "Z" formation for good measure.
Niall laughed loudly, and I heard a few screams from outside the curtain. Niall laughed, quieter this time so fans ovaries wouldn't burst at his signature laugh. I giggled as well, but Niall straightened."Now seriously princess, do I look fine?" he asked, biting his lip.
I giggled. He was so self-conscious! I put on my mock serious face once more, and put my hands on my hips. I looked him up and down, before whisper-shouting "Come on! It's like you're photo shopped!"
Niall burst out laughing once more. He honestly looked amazing, though that wasn't unusual. His hair was growing out again, so he had a lot of natural brown hair at the roots. His blue eyes constantly sparkled, like there was a secret he needed to keep, but was just dying to release. His slightly crumpled tux suited him perfectly, not too big or small, a white tie stuck out of his blazer and my favourite part was his signature Supras, which were gold to match my dress.
He stopped laughing and wrapped me up in his arms. "Thanks." he mumbled into my hair.
I giggled and snuggled into him. "You're welcome."
"Two minutes to One Direction!" a crew member called. My breathing became shallow, sweat lined the creases of my palms and I panted, struggling to get my breathing under control. There were so many people out there! Fans, crazy fans that wanted my blood! They hated me, despised me for marrying Ni! I couldn't face them!
Niall grabbed my hand and rubbed circled into it with the pad of his thumb. He knew it soothed me, and my breathing slowed- slightly. "Everything will be fine." he murmured, his lips grazing my ear. His warm breat sent chills down my spine, and my breathing slowed further. I gave a small nod, and Niall chuckled before grabbing my other hand. "Don't you worry. We'll be fine."
