*Niall's P.O.V*
I held the ice pack to the goose egg on my head and groaned. Who would've thought the doctors could cause injury in a hospital?
Ow. Dammit. Where's the pain meds when you need them?
It had been a few hours sense Mattie was dragged from me. I had blacked out for a few minutes, as I had hot my head hard off the ground. Staff wanted me to lay down for a while as they thought I may have a minor concussion, but I protested. After protesting for half an hour, they got the idea and allowed me to sit in the lobby and wait for Mattie, so long as I was being supervised.
Suddenly, I heard a chiming in my back pocket. I leaped up, causing my head to ache. "Damn." I cursed.
"Sir, watch your language please." the receptionist chastised.
I blushed red. "Sorry miss." I muttered, reaching for my phone. I pulled it out and saw through the cracked screen that I had missed a call.
I pressed the callback button and held the screen to my ear.
The phone on the other end rung, and was instantly picked up.
"Niall, where are you? Are you alright? What happened? We heard yelling and people going down the stairs, and when we went to see if you were ok, the door was ajar and you guys were nowhere to be found!" Liam yelped into the receiver.
I sighed and an a hand through my matted hair. "Li, we're fi-"
But that was a lie. We weren't fine. Mattie was in pain, and for all I knew, we may have lost the baby.
"Niall? Niall, what's wrong?" Liam badgered.
"Alright Li, I'm not going to lie. We're not fine. In fact, I'm not sure if we're even close to being fine." I choked down a sob.
"Niall? Ni, what the hell is wrong?" Liam cursed. Wow. He must be really worried about us.
"Mattie began having stomach pains. I took her to the hospital, and she's with doctors right now." I choked down yet another sob, but I had nothing for the tears streaming down my face. "T-they said she may be having trauma." I whispered.
"What? Trauma from what?" I heard Louis yell for the phone and a door slam. Li must've moved into another room.
"Trauma from what Niall. Please tell me. Mattie is like a sister to me now."
I felt touched that Li considered my wife his sister. But no matter how touched I was, I still couldn't bring myself to say the evil word.
"Niall! Please!" Liam yelled. I flinched, surprised by his shout.
"Miscarriage." I muttered.
"What? Speak up mate!"
"She may be having trauma from miscarriage!" I shouted. And this time I couldn't hold back my sobs.
I fell back into the plastic waiting chair as the sobs racked my body. I shuddered, like I had been hit with a ball.
"We'll be right over. What hospital?"
"Kings Valley." I managed to choke out. The line went dead, and Li left me with my thoughts.
However, before I could think my phone chimed again. I wiped away my tears and unlocked my phone. I held it to my ear. "H-hello?" I stuttered.
"Niall, it's Don."
I groaned inwardly. Don worked for Modest, and was the most revolting man on earth. Usually wearing a stained suit stretched tight over his bulging stomach, he was the spitting image of a overweight walrus in business attire.
