*One week later*
'Yes, judging by the tests, they're in perfect health. You can relax and return to life as usual now."
"Alright. Thank you again Dr.Sirrah, I have no idea what I'd do without you."
"It's my pleasure. Have a nice day, and we'll talk soon."
"Perfect. Thank you."
I hung up the phone and smiled happily to myself. For the past week, Niall and I had been so incredibly careful to not add extra stress to out lives, so the babies could remain in perfect health. Dr. Sirrah had given us little hints that we could relax, that everything was fine, but I didn't do anything too stressful anyway. All we did was find and print off must've been billions of papers, with possible houses on them. We combed through them, and had narrowed it down slightly, but still had no clue as to what we would buy.
Niall was out getting groceries and had left me at home, much to his own discomfort. He hated leaving me for long periods of time alone, but I had managed to convince him to leave me be.
I waddled over to the couch and sat down carefully, making sure not to flop carelessly. I used to do that, but now I didn't want the babies to- jiggle or whatever.
I leaned back into the soft couch and sighed happily. It was nice relaxing every once in a while. I rubbed my stomach and when I felt the baby kick, I grinned wider.
I leaned foreword and grabbed some papers from the coffee table. They had become crumpled, and one had a Brown crinkled circle from when i set down my cup of tea on it. They were worn down from being picked through over and over again.
I looked at the picture of the first house and smiled. Beautiful grey brick and cobblestone, trimmed hedges and lush gardens. Five bedrooms, four bathrooms, and all resting on 50 acers of land. It was perfect, in every shape and form. But it was so big! I set down the paper, and looked at the next one. A huge flat, taking up a whole floor of a building in central London. It has six bedrooms, three baths. Also perfect, but raising children in flats is like growing an oak tree in a thimble. I looked at the last peice of paper. A quaint house on the outskirts of London. White with grey shutters, and a gravel drive. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. Great, but small.
I sighed and ran a hand through my tattered hair. All these houses were great, but had one small flaw in their design that I couldn't overlook.
I heard the door creak in the middle of my musings. I smiled at the thought of Niall, and got up as fast as possible. Niall had been gone for quite a while.
I waddled over to the door and smiled. "Niall, what took so long? I was getting worr-"
Niall was grinning cheekily. In one arm he held a big bag of groceries, and in the other there was a shoelace. At the end of the shoelace, was a puppy.
"Niall, what's this?" I asked sternly, kneeling to stroke the puppy on the head. The little black fluffball yipped happily and licked my hand. I smiled against my will. I was trying to be stern, but this ball of adorable weakened my defences.
"A dog." Niall stated, leaning the puppy inside.
I rolled my eyes. "Har de har har. You are quite the comedian."
"Better to sound funny then look funny."
"Lucky you, you've managed both." I snapped cheekily.
Niall rolled his eyes at me, smiling. "Feisty. I like it." he said, winking. I grinned and looked at the puppy, who was not scratching behind his ear.
"Niall, why do you have a puppy?" I asked, grabbing a small bowl to pour some water into for the poor thing.
Niall shrugged. "I saw this poor little guy on the side of the road. I think someone dumped him. He looks quite young."
I shook my head. Who would abandon a poor little doggie like this little guy? I poured some clear water into the bowl and set it before the little ball of fluff on the floor. He lapped at it eagerly. Must've been thirsy. I scratched behind his ear. "Poor little guy. What are we going to do with him?" I pondered.
Niall dropped beside him and scooped him up into his arms. "Can we keep him? Please please please?" He begged.
I smiled. "Ni, we have twins on the way and you want a dog?"
Niall nodded. "It'll teach me responsibility!" he remarked.
I nodded. "Tell you what. You can keep it so long as he doesn't bark at night, alright?" I said, getting up.
Niall hopped up, the little guy still in his arms. he whooped. "Yes yes yes! I knew it! Good thing I got the dog food." he said, cuddling with the little dog.
I rolled my eyes. "You already got food?" I asked, smiling.
Niall nodded. "And I picked out a name too. How do you feel about Cadet?"
Cadet. It had a nice ring to it. I nodded, smiling. "Cadet. I love it."
Niall grinned, and Cadet licked his nose happily. Niall laughed and began teasing the dog, tickling him and laughing. The puppy ran out the door, sholace leash flapping. Niall laughed as he chased him into the living room, one shoe flopping loosely.
It was missing a shoelace.
