Niall's POV
Lilly sure was taking a while. 20 minutes? I lost count. I didn't want to be in the kitchen any longer so I moved to the living room to watch some TV. I want to see Lil come back happy, but at the same time, I don't want them back together. The only thing distracting my thoughts from thinking of what's going on out there is this really good Chinese food.
She finally came inside with a sad face. I immediately stood up and asked, "What happened?"
She replied, "Whoa sit down" she smiled, but it fell immediately," And we're just going to be friends. It's whats best."
I could tell she just wanted to cry. I patted the seat next to me and told her, "Come here baby girl."
She came and sat next to me. I put my arm around her and pulled her in closer to my side. I rubbed her arm up and down with my thumb and said, "I know it hurts Lil, but it'll get better. Is he going tonight?"
I felt her tears wetting my shirt. It made my heart rip in half knowing this isn't what she truly wanted. She nodded and spoke, "Yea, but I don't wanna go. I want to just stay here with you."
I kissed the top of her head and said, "I'm not leaving Lil."
We sat in silence for a while. The only thing you could hear was the low noise coming from the TV and Mackenzie's music. I felt her tears repeatedly hitting my shirt; soaking my shoulder, but I didn't care. I let her cry. She needed it. She needed me to comfort her. I continued to rub her arm trying to help her, but lets face it, he gas her heart and always will. I can't change that.
She suddenly sat up and said, "I forgot about my food!"
I smiled and said, "I'm sorry, but gave it to Ryan since it'd be cold by the time you came inside."
She sat back in her previous position and nodded. She informed me, "My dad should be home at 7 and my mom has a late shift."
Niall responded, "Alright. Do you want to go eat?"
"Yea kinda."
We both got up and I followed her to the kitchen. I sat at the table while she stuck her head in the fridge fishing for something to eat. She pulled out a left over slice of pizza and stuck it in the toaster. She turned towards me with red puffy eyes, slightly pale face, and her make up running. My heart sank at her expression. She looked so upset.
She knew I was staring. She knew what I was thinking. She always had this way of knowing my thoughts. She spoke softly, "I'm sorry I look like this." She barely could speak she was just so hurt.
I shook my head, "Don't apologize. You're hurt and upset. You just look so sad. I want to make all this pain go away." She came and sat on my lap sideways; her knees draping over the sides of my legs and her arms wrapped around my neck to support herself. My arm went behind her back to help her and she nuzzled her head into my chest.
"Niall thank you for being here. You're such a good person." Her voice was so soft and I could tell it was hard for her to speak. She picked her head up and stared at me. I stared right back. The redness and puffiness went away; leaving her eyes a beautiful color. I wasn't sure if it was a figment of my imagination, but I was pretty sure she was leaning in.
Lilly's POV
I wasn't sure if it was because I was so vulnerable or because I was finally coming around to the idea, but something in Niall's eyes made me attracted to him. Made me want him. I found myself leaning in and when our lips were barely brushing, the timer on the toaster went off; startling us both. I got off his lap and went to the toaster. "Shit!" I exclaimed when I noticed my pizza was slightly burnt.
