How the universe works is dependent on how much gravity, heat and internal force is present- something I learned in physics back in freshman year. Because of gravity, heat and internal force, I tripped on a stack of limited edition Elvis Presley vinyls as I was passing the lost boy who seemed intent on finding a certain record.
Feeling the force of the universe bringing me down to the rugged burgundy carpet that Jon had never taken the time to replace, I remember the sudden warm presence of a hand on my arm. At first I had thought my time was over and maybe that 'god' everyone talks about had finally reached out and tried to bring me to the underworld.
But my prophecy wasn't true.
The boy who I later called Emerald due to the piercing color of his eyes, had been the one to catch hold of my arm, not god.
Ever since I was little, my mum had told me not to talk to strangers who weren't students at my school or seemed older than 20. I didn't grasp the concept until this moment.
Yes, he had been on the stinky bus for field trips that the man we called "sir" took us on sometimes but Emerald wasn't a regular student. He would rarely grace the failed class's with his presence, usually during test days, and after the loud school bell blared through the hallways, he would take off.
After helping my fallen body back up, I remember thanking him and he had told me "your welcome" but just as I had mustered the courage to ask him a question, his black sneakers had brought him out from between Country and Soundtracks.
He left Jon's Music Shop just as quickly as he left school on test days.
