To announce to your birth givers whom hadn't seen you leave the house for the sole purpose of friends since the end of middle school, it was to my mother and father's delight that I would be spending the evening at the movies with a "new friend".
Now being aware of not only my lack of level headed peers, but also my sexual orientation, my mother made sure I was dressed in the warmest of imported fabrics....and had the most trustworthy brand of condoms in my back pocket.
Meeting Connor at the movies proved an innocent evening as he approached with the hint of a smile and the formation of a new bruise peeking out of his cheaply made trench coat.
Appreciating merely the presence of such a boy with emerald green eyes, we both made the journey inside to the theater with grungy green carpeting, flashes of stand-up games, the snapping of one holed punches in the orange tickets and the unforgettable smell of freshly buttered popcorn making it's way to our senses.
It was merely five minutes before each of us had surpassed the lines and crowds, a bucket of popcorn in my hand, a Coke and MilkDuds in Connor's.
Sitting upon the red velvet seats toward the back of the theater made sense as we had previously spotted a group of overwhelming jocks near the front rail.
As the previews closed and the film began, it would be only fitting as my eyes would constantly wander from the screen showing superheros dancing in battle to the enchanted face of Emerald- finally seeing the heros of yesterday's comic books and action figures reviving themselves in today's film.
The beauty before my eyes had led my shaking hand, slightly oily with popcorn butter, to link with that of his own shaking counterpart.
