Finding a proper way to ask someone to hang out with the host that is yourself can be taken in two separate ways. The way Emerald took mine was neither way I expected.

On that Friday, every student at the institution was excitedly preparing for the weekend ahead.
Notes with phone numbers and home addresses were passed as plans were made and dates were solidified. I approached the boy with green eyes, hoping to spark his interest the same way.

I asked; "Are you doing anything this weekend?" And he took a moment to recognize my sudden presence.

"No," he said and I had felt the pain in my chest to turn his empty weekend to something new and something exciting.

"Do you want to hang out Saturday night?" His response was shocking yet could be conceived as understandable by someone like me.

"No I forgot I have a..um. A family thing." I could not perceive whether I was disappointed or flattered that Emerald could use such a cute shutter with someone like me.

I couldn't let him go so I demanded we exchange phone numbers in the form of scrawled digits on college ruled tree flesh and he did comply but with slight hesitation. At the time I didn't take a chance to analyze it. This would ultimately be a detriment to myself and to Emerald.
