4- Spill

The next day I got up early, awaiting my best friends arrival. But I couldn't shake the feeling last night's dream gave me. I had ruined Gabe's life and even though I knew it was only a bad dream, I couldn't stop the guilt or the doubt from bombarding me.

I decided to go checkup on mum. Ever since she found out she was pregnant she had been sleeping a lot. I eased the bedroom door open, not wanting to wake her.

She was so peaceful when she slept, but when she was awake you could tell something was wrong. She knew that the child would die, just like all the others but it was all she had left of dad.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanford weren't my real parents of course, my real mum had died giving birth and my dad put me up for adoption. I had been bounced from one foster family to another, most of them were unable to take care of me. Mr. and Mrs. Stanford were one of my favourites, at least they were until Mr. Stanford died in that car crash.

The agency blamed it on bad luck, but it's so much more than that. Death and destruction, what else would you expect from a Vice?

The door bell rung and I raced to get it. Before either of us could say anything I flew into her open arms, it had sort of become a tradition.

"Hey Georgia! It's so good to see you."
"I know right. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I wish the weekends were shorter."

Georgia followed me inside and to my room. We sat next to each other on my bed. Georgia, as always, was the first to pick up the conversation.

"My brother's coming over to visit! He should be here on Wednesday. I've missed him so much. We were really close."
"Oh my God, Georgia that's amazing."
"He's not my real brother, he's also a Vice. We were just really luck that the same family chose to adopt both of us."
"How old is he?"
"He turned seventeen a few months ago."
"Okay, now it's my turn. Gabe asked me out yesterday and-."
"What?! How could you not tell me this? Never mind. Spill. I want to know every minuscule detail. Where did you go? What did you do? What was he wearing? Did he kiss you!?"

"Wow, one question at a time. Lets see, I was at the park when he walked up to me and he asked if I wanted to go get some coffee. I think he knew that even if I didn't like him I would never pass up a chance to get coffee. I LOVE coffee, seriously, I think I'm addicted to it. Right, right, I'm getting off topic again. He was wearing jeans and a blue shirt. He looked really hot. Then there was me, in my in my TRACKSUIT PANTS! I hadn't even bothered to do my hair that morning. I'd just put it up in a messy bun. I probably looked like a homeless guy. It was embarrassing."

"Hey, I've seen you in the morning. No matter how messy your hair looks, you can pull it off."
"Thanks."
"Now keep going."
"When we were walking there, I tripped and he actually said that we were on a date! We both got a roast with a black coffee."
"Wow, that's just creepy. Did he actually order that of his own free will?"
"I know right! I've never met anyone who likes roast and coffee. It was weird. When we were there we just talked. Then he walked me home and... We kissed!"
"Ohmygod! Was he a good kisser? My best friend kissed an angel! Like a real, live angel."

"He asked me on a second date."
"When?"
"He's coming by to pick me up at three." Georgia pulled out her phone.
"It's already 11! Did he say what you should wear?"
"Something comfy."
