I followed Luke around like a lost puppy for the rest of the day, silent. I figured it was better to stay quiet compared to aggravating him.

Luke was right though, he had a lot of things to do. He had paperwork, phone calls, emails. I had forgotten that he was obviously pretty high in ranking since he was a pureblood.

Finally, Luke was the first to speak in hours and at this point it was almost two in the morning.

"There is one more task that I must attend to. Soon we will learn to deal with the pain of separation but today, you will watch me hunt. Pay close attention and do not make a sound. Control your little newborn urges, this is not a time for you to feed."

I sighed. My throat was killing me. He then proceeded to stalk out a group of hikers, for his house was near some mountains.

In a swift motion, he had all the hikers rounded up. Luke had compelled them into silence as he tore their necks into shreds. The hunting side of Luke was more terrifying compared to the cold Luke. His facial features were dark, his eyes were darker than my own.

The strangest part of it all was that he had saved a teenage boy from the scene. Luke's hand tightly gripped the boy's arm as he continued to pull him over towards where I was standing.

He smirked, "This one is a tough one, Grey. He managed to avoid my mass compulsion so now he will pay the ultimate price. He is coming home with us and you will now use him as your servant. The bond between you and Grace is much too strong and I will not allow this."

I whimpered, "What are you going to do to Grace then?"

"Grace will become my own back up blood bag. I do not tolerate master-servant relationships. I thought about having you just kill her," he sighed, "but what's the fun it that?"

I could tell that the conversation was over and I dropped my head in shame. How did he find out?

Luke then forced me to read the boy's mind. My victim's name was Logan. He was seventeen. I felt horrible, not only from the loss, but also the aches of the vampire power. But Luke claimed that would end soon. I rolled my eyes.

"Compel him to forget his memories, maybe this will help you not become so emotionally attached, I assume.  I then ask of you to take him to his new bed. We will get you two acquainted after he sleeps through the confusion of becoming a no one."

Luke sounded so cruel. This was not how we should treat the humans. I had to follow my maker's orders though, so I distanced myself from Luke and took Logan's hand. I wiped the tears from his face. I knew Luke had kept him within earshot for a reason, Logan knew what was about to happen.

"Please don't do this to me," He cried.

I slowly shook my head, "It's for the best. Grace kept her memories and look how far it got us. You will look me in the eyes, Logan," his eyes shakily made their way to my red ones, "I am bending Luke's rules. You will forget everything, but will remember the things you absolutely love. I don't care if it's your mother, your best friend, or a dog- just remember something that will keep you strong." I looked away.

Logan blinked and whispered, "Thank you."

I gently grabbed the poor human's arm and we went to meet Luke.

"It is done, Luke."

Luke merely shook his head and began the walk home. I rubbed Logan's hand as a motion of comfort; Luke just wouldn't have to see how much I cared. That was my mistake with not only Grace, but with him too. Emotion woke Luke up from his romantic fantasy.

I returned to the house, bid a farewell to Grace (Luke had discouraged me from ever talking to her again), and laid Logan down to rest.

I spent the night beside Grace's empty cage staring at the wall. Logan's cage was positioned on the other side of me. I felt like a wreck.

There was nothing I could do though, Luke had specifically ordered for me to stay away for the remainder of the night. He briefly mentioned something about putting Grace up in his room, away from me but I had tuned him out.

He just didn't care how much it hurt me.
