chapter 4

Luke //

I awoke the next morning to a loud knocking at the door. As I wiped the sleep out of my blue eyes, I glanced over at Lillian who was sprawled across my bed, sound asleep. I took the stairs two at a time, humming.

Whoever was at the door was now repeatedly ringing the doorbell and banging at the door. I rolled my eyes, unlocking the door and opening the door.

"Ash?" I replied, shocked that my best friend from high school had finally came to visit after a hundred years. Ashton's blonde hair was a mess and he was panting for breath. I calmly let him inside and shut the door abruptly behind him.

"L-look Luke, I know we haven't talked in years and I'm sorry for that, but something big is about to happen and you're the reason why," Ash finally spoke.

He plopped himself down on the couch and pulled out his cell phone. He took a deep breath and softly continued, "The council knows what you're hiding and they're not happy. The girl knows too much and you know the rules. Mike is set out to get you this time."

I had began chatting with Ash, I knew he hadn't come after all this time for nothing. He could have just called me to warn me so he must be willing to fight for me.

He was explaining that the night before how he had gotten a message from Karri, a friend who happened to be Mike's secretary, on accident. It had addressed violation of the Vampire Code for the famous "Luke the Loser".

I stopped Ash, "Look, you know I wouldn't go around kidnapping humans for fun. Lillian... She's special. I think she's the one."

I looked up and caught Ash rolling his eyes.
"Where's this special girl of yours then Luke?" Ash smirked.

I led him upstairs to my bedroom and opened the heavy door. Huh, I was sure that I locked it like the rest of the the doors and windows in the house.

I looked around the large room, but there was no Lillian in sight. Ashton doubled over in laughter, "Congrats bro, you lost your mate in less than forty eight hours." I walked onto the balcony and swore, the little mortal girl had escaped me, the two hundred year old teen vampire.

I launched myself off the balcony and yelled to Ashton from above, "Let's go find us a Lillian and boy does she have a surprise coming." As Ash followed, I used my vampire sense of smell to locate her. I chuckled to myself, she had merely made it two miles.

To give her a run for her money, I walked at a normal human pace for a while. I knew she had ran into a boy, a boy who she had lied to and told that she would stay with him in order to stay hidden from me.

"Hey man, you alright? Take a deep breath, we'll get her. You're all tense." Ashton said, grabbing my arm. He had read my mind and I knew he knew that my Lillian was in fact with another guy.

I grabbed his arm in reply and took off at lightning fast vampire speed, to the shack I knew where she was at. She thought vampires were dumb, she won't know what hit her.

I had to get her back before the Council found out that I let someone with so much information about our kind go.

Lillian //
I slowly regained consciousness as light flooded my eyes. I had slept well for being in a house with a killer. As I looked around the room, there was no Luke to be found.

I shrugged and rolled back over until it hit me- I could escape! The stupid vampire had left me in a room by myself with a balcony attached. I just had to climb down the balcony and I'd never have to see that loser again.

I got out of the warm bed, stretched and skipped to the door. As I pulled the door handle, it easily swung open. Heck, the vampire didn't even lock his doors! I giggled to myself, giddy with hope.

I made my way out onto the balcony and looked down. It wasn't even that far down! Conveniently there was a bush below that would soften the fall.

I swung my leg over the railing, looking back into the room to make sure no one was behind me and jumped.

The rush of the fall pumped me up even more and as soon as I hit the ground I took off down the dead end road, away from my captor's mansion. I had done it, I had escaped. I looked back one last time and saw no one running after me.

"Stupid vampires," I whispered to myself.

"Hey there," I yelled to the boy in the distance, "I need help, please help me!"

I felt like I had been running for hours and I was ready to collapse. The boy turned and ran my direction.

"If I can stay with you, I'll do whatever you want! I just need somewhere to stay hidden."

As the boy approached me, he grabbed my arm, "My name is Jonah. I can help you, come this way." As we began to walk I wondered why Jonah had taken me in so easily. Finally he spoke, "What are you running from?"

I thought of a good lie and replied, "Boyfriend trouble, s'all. I'll be leaving in two days max. He just needs to cool down."

Jonah nodded his head as he led me inside his small, almost shack like, house. I guess he bought my lie.

As it was now nighttime, he silently grabbed me a blanket and showed me to the couch. I basically collapsed on the couch, but lie wide awake as Jonah shut the door to his room.

I snuggled into the blankets, but I knew something was up.

Luke was close, I could sense it.

Speak of the devil, the door was kicked off of its hinges. Luke and another equally attractive boy waltzed into the living room and I stood up, unable to control my movements.

Luke began laughing like a mad man and whispered to the other character, "Whatever you're doing, keep doing it man." Unable to control my body, I moved like a puppet on strings straight into Luke's awaiting arms, leaving a puzzled Jonah at the door.

I was still in Luke's arms as we walked into the dark woods with that other guy following behind.

"My name's Ashton, love. I'm the same type of monster as that boyfriend of yours." The mystery boy smirked as I choked on my own spit.

Boyfriend?

Back in Jonah's world, Jonah never saw her again, nor did he ever discover whether she had told him a lie, or was speaking the truth. You don't just run into your "lover's" arms after running from him for that long.
