Then discovered,

The rest of the world was black and white,

I OPEN MY eyes reluctantly to find several faces looking back at me with anticipation. Dad looks terrible, scrunched up as he looks at me with a glint of hope in his eyes. Edward immediately scoots closer to me when I flutter my eyelids open. Abin looks completely tensed, and his whole face lights up as he sees me.

I lay on the soft cushion, and my back aches when I make an attempt to move my body.

Anika smiles at me reassuringly, placing her cold hands on my shoulders and lowering me onto the bed.

"You're hurt", she says, with that warm smile of hers, "Don't move for a while."

"What happened?" I croak, and my hoarse voice surprises me.

"Don't talk", Edward says to me, "You'll be alright soon."

He walks toward me, placing his hand on mine, sending a jolt of electric current through my knuckles. It feels as though he hasn't touched me in ages, and I want him to maintain that contact with me. I need him to make me feel alive.

But then I remember what he'd done to me two nights ago, and although I'm not supposed to feel that way toward him, my heart just doesn't listen to my mind, which is constantly begging my heart to stay away from him.

"Buttons", Abin says, interrupting my thoughts, "I almost thought you, you know." A tear makes its way through his cheek as he tries to complete his sentence, which he doesn't anyway.

I almost thought you died, I complete his sentence in my head.

I thought so too, Abin, I want to tell him, but instead I just lay there, without any movement, feeling numb and weak.

"You were buried in a crevasse", Abin continues, "And it was horrendously scary."

"English p-please", I manage to say using my bittered voice.
