Charlie had a call about an hour ago from his friends that they had to go back home for the rest of the hols, but would he like to go with them, so he went, apologising, but we didn't mind. Everyone's free to have a social life instead of sat on a random teen girls' (that hardly listens to their music anyways) temporary bedroom floor, watching random films on putlocker and eating pancakes and waffles drowned on honey or sugar or Nutella. That's what me and Leondre are doing.
"M, did you make these?" Leondre asks, tilting his head back and putting his hand over his full mouth.
I quickly swallow. "Not the waffles because there was no time, but I did make the pancakes. I bake a lot. A lot!" Laugh, pausing the movie we're not really watching and stand, offering my hand to pull him up.
"What are we doing?" He asks.
"I don't know, but I figured you don't really want to be curled on about a thousand blankets on a random teenage girls temporary bedroom floor, so it's up to you." I shrug as he swiftly bends down and snatches up the nutella.
"Do you have a music room?" Leondre asks and I hesitate for a second.
I could lie and save my talent from being found out, or I could tell the truth and let him find out. Or I could say yes, but I'm not very good.
"Yeah, but I don't use it a lot; I'm not really that good at music." I lie and look at my feet scuffing the wooden floor.
"Well than I'll teach you some
stuff." Leondre grins and I smile back before leading him down several corridors. And then get us lost. For an hour."Ugh, I hate this house, I hate having to move, I hate mazes, I hate my parents and I want Alex." I kick a wall and slid down the opposite one, with my back pressed against it.
"Hey, hey, hey. It's fine, ok? We won't be lost here forever. We'll get out at some point." Leo sits next to me and puts his arm around me.
"I'm sorry for getting us lost." I lean on his shoulder as he pits his arm around me.
"It's called an adventure princess. Do you know your dad's number?" He asks, moving suddenly.
"Yeah, but I don't have my phone, why?" I look at him, hope filling me.
"I have mine. It's on low battery, but I can turn it on and you will have enough to call your dad." He takes out his iPhone and I hug him, landing both of us on the floor.
"Thank you thank you thank you! Sorry, I don't like being trapped for long periods of time." I blush slightly.
I am never gonna tell him about the mental hospital; he would judge me so badly. Or the anorexia. Or any of it.
"It's fine, I don't really like flying." Leondre waits for his phone to turn on. "Where are you from?"
"Well, I was born in Yorkshire and lived there for the first five years of my life, lived in London until I was nine, then moved out to Peterborough until I moved here with dad. You're from wales, right?" I smile slightly, typing in my dad's number.
"Yeah, Port Talbot. Siblings?" Grinning, he takes his phone and putting it on speaker before setting it on the floor in between us.
"Older brother, Alex in LA. What about you?" I smirk but we both shut up as dad answers.
"Hello?" A chirpy, slightly tired voice comes through.
"Hey dad." I say to the phone and Leondre picks it up.
"Oh, this isn't your number, Emily." Dad laughs. "Oh, wait, can you have more than one number so people don't know its you...?" Dad starts muttering about google and phone networks.
"Is he always like this?" Leondre whispers at me.
"Pretty much. Dad, can you focus for long enough so I don't start panicking?" I put enough meaning in to my voice so that dad knows vaguely what I'm talking about, but not enough so he'll mention it.
"Oh no, is there a dead body? Did you kill Leondre Devries? Is there a T-Rex in the house?" Dad asks, and the worst part is, I don't think he's kidding about any of them.
"Um... no, I'm still alive sir, there is no dead body, and I'm not sure a T-Rex could fit in this house!" Leondre laughs.
"Oh... what about a baby T-Rex?" Dada asks, sounding more than slightly disappointed.
"No dad." I sigh, resting my head in my hand. "We're slightly lost and have been trying for an hour without success to find our way again."
"Oh... at least it's not a T-Rex!" Dad says sincerely.
"Dad, seriously, starting to panic!" I warn and he immediately becomes serious.
"Ok, find the nearest window and then call me again." Dad says.
"No!" we both shout simultaneously.
"Why not?" He asks.
"Phones about to die." Leondre explains.
"Oh. Well, go to the nearest window, I'll walk around the house outside looking for you." and just like that, dad hangs up.
"Come on." Leondre stands and pulls me to my feet.
We walk down three more corridors before we get to a room with a decent window to half-lean out of.
"Hold onto my waist, I don't wanna fall out." I say, opening it as far as it will go.
Leo wraps his arms around my waist and holds on tight. "Ok, and go." He says.
Leaning forwards out of the back window, dad comes skipping into view. Not metaphorically, but literally. As he gets closer, we both hear him singing, " Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things"
What is wrong with my family?
