We're in school, the day after we (dad and I) beat the other three, seeing as dad has to work, and Leo and I have a music theory exam.
We get to school, and as soon as the four of us walk in (Charlie gave us all a lift) everyone falls silent, staring at us.
Well, me.
I stop, almost running out, but take a dep breath and follow Leondre to his locker. "Walk me to my locker?" I whisper to him, and he nods, glancing arund at everyone still staring at us.
We get to my locker, and I swap my hoodie for my blazer, shoving my bag in my locker, taking out my music theory books to revise before the test. "Shall we go?"
Whispers start spreading down the hall as soon as we turn our backs, and I try to hear what they're saying.
We make for the back of school, where no one goes, and sit there in almost silence.
"Did you hear what they were saying?" I finally break the tension.
Leondre shakes his head, "It all jumbled up in my ears when I tried to listen... I'll talk to a few people and try ad find out." The bell goes and Leondre stands, offereing me his hand.
I take it, and pull myself up, and low-key don't ever want to let go- Emily! Get a hold of yourself woman! I scold myself, forcing myself to let Leondre's hand go, and we walk in a comfortable silence to form
Everyone's already in there, Chloe, Amelia, Ty and Nic are arguing over something, but everyone turns to look as me as we walk in - some with disgust, some with pity, some with no emotion at all... what did I do?
I take a seat next to Nicolas, Leondre handing me a note before turning to go back to his own seat.
"Why are you even here, freak?" Someone yells out, and I frown, turning to see who it was.
Adam Bailey.
"Because I'm required by law to go be in education until I'm eighteen."
"Is that what they taught you?" He sneers at me, and my eyebrows draw closer together.
"Who's the-"
"Oh look, the mental patient is here." I stand, spinning to face the bitch of the school: Alayna Feir.
Leondre took a step forwards, narrowing his eyes at her, "what did you just call her?"
I stand in front of him.
"Oh, you mean the nutcase in front of you?" Alayna yawned, looking at her nails as though she was bored.
"Excuse me?" I spoke before Leondre could yell at her.
"Oh yeah, you know you're little secret - I'll assume your boyfriend Leondre already knows - about the mental hospital? It's out, the whole school knows." She smirked, brushing her dyed black hair behind her ear.
I stare at her, mouth open. "Um, how? Those files are-"
"Classified. Unless you're me. My daddy has lots of money. Bribes can be amazing when used correctly." Alayna laughs, a horrible, high pitched fake sound.
"Emily, what is she talking about, what hospital?" Leondre turns me to face him. I take one look at his face, and bolt, vaulting over the table, slamming the door behind me.
I can hear footsteps behind me, and I just know it's Leondre, Chloe, Amelia, Ty and Nic.
I run faster, barely allowing myself to breath, my sides hurting, but I can't stop.
I manage to lose them somewhere on my way home, sprinting into the house, slamming the door, taking the stairs three at a time.
I don't even care anymore, I throw open the door to the recording studio, and almost faint from lack of oxygen.
"Emily? What's wrong love?" Dad asks, jumping to his feet, knocking over his chair in the process, running to my aid.
"They know." I say, panting. "They know about the hospital, they know, dad, they know." I break down in tears, and he holds me close. I allow myself to be lost for a few moments, protected by him.
"Shh, baby, sh, it'll all be okay, I promise you."
I sniffle.
"Sorry, it's a bit of an emergency." Dad says to whoever is in here with us.
"It's fine, are you okay, Emily?" It's Joey Devries, Leondre's older brother. I peek at him, and shake my head.
"Don't tell Leondre." I say between sobs, and Joey nods, patting my back awkwardly, not really knowing what to do.
I can't believe she found out...
I can't believe she told everyone...
I can't believe they know...
