I wake at half seven - the time Alex set my alarm clock to - and groan, remembering the events of yesterday.
"You awake?" Alex pokes his head around my bedroom door.
"Evidently. Ugh, what's up now?" I ask, sitting up and rubbing my eyes.
"You need to get up now. Breakfast is downstairs on the kitchen sideboard." He disappears again and I drag myself out of bed, my blanket falling took the floor.
I must look a wreak; my hair's all tangled, I haven't got any makeup on, and I have dark circles under my eyes from not sleeping too well last night.
I roll my eyes at my reflection and open my half empty wardrobe. I have to decide today as mum's leaving later, dad tomorrow.
"Hurry up Em!" Alex yells and I quickly get dressed and apply a bit of makeup before rushing downstairs to see a family gathering.
"Whoa, what's this?" I fake a smile; I know exactly what this is.
"It's time for you to choose, Emily darling." mum tries her sickly-sweet thing again.
"Ok, stop." I say harshly.
"What?" the three of them ask.
"It's my decision, don't try to make me choose for the benefit of you; it's my life too, remember?" I shout and storm off out of the house, leaving the front door open.
I go straight to Costa in town; I always used to go there if I needed to think things over.
"Can I have a large latte please?" I get my money out and hand it over.
"Sure, that all?" the girl asked.
"Yeah." I stand to the side and wait for my latte.
When I get it, I sit at a window table and watch the people walking past.
"You ok now?" Alex asks, sitting opposite me.
"Yeah, I'm just putting a lot of pressure on myself right now.." I don't look at him.
"I can tell Em. Look, it's fine. Just because everything is changing, doesn't mean that you have to stress about things that you don't need to stress about." Alex wants me to look at him, but I can't.
"It's not just that, it's the fact that they're moving too quickly and I'm scared of hurting people and that things are jut gonna get out of control." I drink some of my latte.
"You'll be fine. Are you gonna come back now or not?" Alex gets up and I finish my latte.
"Yeah, sure. I've made my decision anyways." We walk home the long way, so I get to talk to Alex about things.
"So do I get to know who you chose?" Alex nudges me with his side.
"Dad." I say simply, pushing him gently back.
"Oh? How come?" Alex raises an eyebrow and we come into view of the house.
"Because he doesn't want to trick me as a one over mum, but he wants the best for me. And with mum, there is no chance that I can have more fake-sick days, but with dad, there is." I explain with a grin on my face.
Alex laughs. "Ok, come on. Lets go break the news to mum!"
