"Father! Father!" Prince Alfred yelled as he ran into the large room. "A.. A vampire has killed mother!!" He screamed.
"I should have known." The King mumbled.
"Should have known? Known what father?" Alfred asked. "Father.... Where is Mattie?" He asked with terror in his voice.
"Doing the deed you were too weak to do." The King sneered. "You know son," he began as he lifted himself from his char and walked up to is son. "Though you were the stronger of you two Matthew is the older twin." A look of shock spread across Alfred's face. "Yes. Actually we never celebrated on ether of your birthdays. You were on the forth of July while Matthew was on the first. For some unknown reason you stayed three more days. We all thought you would die but here you are." The King walked around his son then stopped in front of his face. "You were somehow so strong since you were young. Yet you never were able to kill. Just imagine you could have been the highest knight if you only drew your sword at things other than the dead. Now you will learn what happens to naughty children. You have only survived this long because of your mother but she is no longer here." The King smirked as he glared into Alfred. "Oh how sad when word is spread to the common folk. 'Prince Alfred the strong, courageous loving boy killed his own mother in a fit of rage' it sound very nice if I say so myself." The King laughed. "You have an hour to leave the kingdom or my guards will attack you." The King glared.
Alfred took off with a run to his room.
"Master Alfred." A servant said softly.
"Madam Lela." Alfred said surprised.
"Shh." She mumbled and grabbed his hand. "You must listen to me. Here," she said quickly as she shoved a bag at him. "Your name is no longer Alfred you need to think of a new one!" Lela mumbled. "If you must use a name use that one. You now have no family so you will have no last name. In the bag there is two weeks of food and some money get as far as you can and begin to work. Finally I must do something." Alfred watched as she closed her eyes and whispered a incantation. Alfred felt something change he looked to his hands and realized his skin is now darker. "You look just like your mother." Lela said softly.
"Thank you Lela." Alfred thanked.
"There is a book of incantations to help you. Your mother wrote a lot of them herself and it has been passed in her family since before time. I wish you luck sir." Lela said hopefully.
"Thank you Lela. Thank you so much." He wrapped her in a hug then darted off. It took all day but he made it to the edge of the human border. He stood there looking at the waste lands that stood before him. Night was fast approaching. That's when they came out of hiding. Quickly Alfred climes into a tree next to the fence and attempted to relax. He did something he never thought he'd do. He prayed. Not to the god that the church has taught him since young but his mothers gods. Oddly enough for once he felt truly safe.
