Chapter 7
Jaycee POV
I grunted as my back came in contact with the grass. Before I could even ask what happened, she ripped away from my grip. By the time I got to my senses and got up, she had already shifted and was a good distance away. I automatically ran after her, but after a few minutes, I lost her scent and gave up. I didn’t bother calling her because I knew she wouldn’t answer. I knew the person who would answer though—Mackenzie.
I left numerous texts and voicemails for her, but I had no luck. Just as I was about to drive home, my ringtone sounded in my ears. I answered without hesitation, “Mackenzie! Thank you for finally picking up.” Her immediate response was accusing me of hurting Rose—like I would do that. “Christ, Mackenzie, get over here now!”
________
She was at the park in minutes. As she hopped down from her truck, the scent of a familiar wolf filled my nose, Jason Wolff to be exact. I scanned the surrounding wilderness for a sign of him, and my gaze immediately found his. Giving him a nod, I walked towards Mackenzie with a hope that she knew where Rose went. “Do you have any idea of where she went?”
She crossed her arms and simply said, “Yup.”
“Well aren’t you going to tell me?”
An over exaggerated sigh left her lips. “If you had any smarts, you would have figured that she went on a run by now. PE is the only time she gets to run, but our wolves haven’t gone on a free run since we moved in. She took this chance to probably run on land near your pack territory. They won’t hurt her because she’s your mate. It’s all pretty obvious.”
I would never admit this to her, but she’s really smart for a rogue. “Then let’s go find her, come on,” I yelled as I started to jog. Her hand shot out and shoved hard against the ground. “What the hell?” I roared.
“You can’t possibly think you’re going to see her. Knowing her, she’ll probably be home in about fifteen minutes. I’m going to go be the best friend that I am and set up the perfect girl’s night for us. You are going to leave her alone for a couple of days so she can get over whatever funk she’s in. Got it?” She said that as he hopped back in her truck. Before I could mention Jason wanted to see her, she sped off.
________
It’s been two days since I’ve seen her and I’m growing more impatient every second. That was it. I couldn’t take it anymore. I grabbed my phone, keys, and beanie and hopped in my car.
As I pulled up to their house, I noticed different lights on throughout the place. I made my way up to the front door, but before I set foot on the pathway, I felt a sudden movement next to me.
“Do what I say, and you’re welcome to be with her at any time at our house. But do note that if you do anything to upset or hurt her, you won’t have the pleasure of seeing her when you want. It’ll be her decision, not yours.” The voice said.
“Have you been waiting for me?” I asked.
“I knew you’d come at some point today. When I realized you were coming tonight, I just hung out on the roof until you showed up.”
“How did y-,”
She cut me off. “I understand you’re jumping out of your pants waiting to see her, so go on in, but give her some space. Okay?” she said giving me a sad smile.
“Thanks,” was all I could say to the look she gave me. I tried not to run all the way to the door. I didn’t bother knocking on the door, so I let myself in and found Rose sitting at the kitchen table, her cheeks bulging with food. A smirk spread across my face. So this was Rose in her natural habitat? That was wiped off my face when I saw her dart away from me.
