Chapter 9
Jaycee POV
That night at Rose’s place still plays on repeat in my mind. It’s been a good three days without seeing each other.
She started giggling.
“Hey! It wasn’t my fault you pushed me in here!” I said while laughing.
“You look adorable when you’re all wet and angry. Makes me wanna jump in just to see you up close,” she said bending down closer so that I could hold on to the dock while staring into her eyes. Those hazel orbs just intoxicate me. Before I knew it I leaned in and kissed her bow-shaped lips and hoped she wouldn’t pull away. But I was the one who pulled her; right into the water with me to get closer. She popped up from beneath the surface, her face red with anger.
“I didn’t mean that literally!” She yelled as she pushed me away. I gave her a big bear hug and just floated there, not letting go.
“But you know you want to stay here,” I said smirking, and feeling the heat rise in her cheeks.
“Jaycee. I need to tell you something,” she began.
I sat up straight in my bed, banging my head on the headboard. “Gah,” I breathed out and rubbed my head. “What was she going to say? I have to see her soon or else my wolf will see her for me,” I said to myself as I looked at the clock. It read 5:45am and I knew it was almost time to get up and start running my laps. I decided to get ready now to get my mind off of what just happened. While jumping in the shower, I managed to tap shuffle on my iHome. It started blasting Wake Me Up by Avicii and Aloe Blacc and I started to wash up. About fifteen minutes later, I dried off and styled my hair in record time. I changed into some Hollister sweats and a tank-top and was good to go. I finished five laps when a pack member came to join me. No one else was required to train as much as I was, so I was surprised anyone was up at this time of morning. It turned out to be Cody Perkins and he looked to be a pup, just around fourteen. He starting jogging beside me and said,
“Hey! Alpha Jaycee, isn’t it?”
“Uh, yeah. You’re Cody right? I’ve seen you around the house but haven’t really talked to you before,” I sprinted to finish my seventh lap and looked back at him. To my surprise, he wasn’t that far behind and finished seconds later.
“So I heard you found your mate? What’s she like?”
“Who told you that?” I said, tensing.
“Oh I’ve seen you around school. I observe quite a lot and could tell. Do you know her friend?” he asked, sounding eager.
I stood there and just looked at him, blinking. He was pretty buff for a kid his age and even though he sounded like a geek, he could probably whoop someone if he needed to. I rewound though and realized he just said he practically watches me and the people around me from a distance. I took that a bit creepy, but he’s learning so he probably wants to know how the about-to-be Alpha does things.
“Oh sure. Mackenzie? Yeah she’s cool. They’re such close friends, practically inseparable. Why?”
“Do you think she’s found her mate yet? I dig her kick-ass personality and wanted to take her to a party my friend’s having.”
I tried not to double-over with laughter and barely held a straight face.
“Okay. Let me get this straight: You want Mackenzie Frost? I’d give you her number right here, but she has found her mate. Unless you want to get slaughtered by Jason Wolf, I wouldn’t say anything about liking her like that.” I laughed after every other word and he sat there with a tomato face.
