He gets here in 4.
"Where's the food." I ask as soon as he steps into the house.
"Errr..." He starts stuttering, "I-I didn't h-have t-t-time to get i-it so I came s-straight h-h-here a-a-a-nd..." He trails off nervously.
"Wait what?! You say you have food and you say you will bring it to me when in fact you don't have food and you haven't brought it to me! What a friend." I mumble. Then suddenly I realise something was wrong. Looking at Brandon, his hands are shaking and beads of sweat are forming on his forehead. What happened to the over-confident, cocky guy I've known for literally the whole of my life?
"Brandon," I make my voice gentle and it's laced with concern and worry. I'm seriously worried though," What's wrong? What's happened? Is this why he has come?
Brandon shakily nods his head. "Um...well I know this is not really your problem, and more mine. I got myself into this...and I don't know if I can get out..." His eyes are starting to water and I get the urge to cry with him. I take a deep breath and put my hand up to stop him. He looks as if he's going to collapse.
"First, before you start, I'm gonna get you a glass of water because you look like you're going to faint. Go up to my room and lie on my bed and I'll bring it up to you." I say, reminding myself of my mother - she was a doctor.
He smiles gratefully and slowly trudged up the stairs, taking deep breaths. I walk into the kitchen a little scared. The last time I saw him like this was 4 years ago, when he took his mother's engagement ring in to school without her knowing to show all his friends (They were impressed) and lost it. He panicked and ended up crashing at my place because he was too scared to face her wrath when he got back. We were 12.
Holding the glass of water in one hand, and a tissue packet in the other, I push open my bedroom door with my foot and give him the water. He mutters a small 'Thanks' before shutting his eyes. A tear rolls down his cheek and my heart starts to break. Seeing him in a state like this makes me feel so depressed, he's the one who usually cheers me up if I've had a bad day.
I sit down on the side of the bed and held his hand, squeezing it tight.
"I put your homework in a pile on your desk if that's okay." He mumbles, his eyes still shut.
I smile. "It's fine, thank you. Now tell me what happened."
He takes a deep, deep breath, and starts to tell me. As soon as he starts, it's like he can't stop.
"Okay. So you know that girl Lydia? The girl of the month? Well I went over to her house a few days ago and we started making out. Her parents were out."
I mentally double face palm myself and shut my eyes tight. Lydia was one of Alexis' best friends and they always go around together, along with another girl called Crystal. They make up the three-force. Then the rest of the cheerleading team are behind them. I start pleading in my mind 'please don't say what I think you're going to say'.
"And then things went a bit too far." He carries on. "We eventually got onto her bed and then...stuff happened. And I didn't use a rubber. Sorry." He started to shake and I gasp inaudibly.
"Does that mean she's-" I say but get cut off by my annoying brother. He always has the most perfect timing.
"AMBER WHERE THE HELL IS MY MEGA-BAG OF CHEETOHS???" Jacob starts to scream at me and flings the door of my room open, jumping in like a little kid. He's already 14 but I swear he acts like a 5 year old. Then an image of me sneaking his snack from his 'secret' stash in his room to Chloé's house and us pigging out in her room flashes in my mind.
I sigh. "Jacob, this isn't the ti-" I again, get cut off.
"NO SHUT UP I KNOW YOU ATE THEM NOW YOU HAVE TO BU-" He had just realised Brandon was in the room, crying his eyes out.
"Oh um hi. Sorry. I'll come back later then." He says awkwardly, a curious yet still angry look on his face as he shuffles out and closes the door behind him.
"Sorry about that." I say, immediately cringing. Talk about the worst timing ever.
"No it's okay. And to answer your question...yes." He breathes, unable to meet my eyes.
I swear I'm frozen for about 2 minutes, thoughts zooming around in my head. Does that mean Brandon is going to have a child? He's going to be a father? And Lydia is going to be the mother? Wait...Lydia is going to be a mother? She'll probably kill the baby on the first day!! She'll probably leave all of the responsibilities to Brandon and try not to have anything to do with it! No, that can't happen...but what if it does?! Ahhh!!!
"Hey? Are you okay? Amber?" He asks, concern dripping in his voice.
His voice snaps me out of my deep thoughts. "Huh? Oh...yeah. I should be the one asking you that. But how could have you forgotten about using a...a rubber?!" I practically screech.
He looks down at his hands in shame. "I-I don't know. It's never happened before. It's like I was in a trance." He stutters.
I instantly go numb. He looks so hurt and fragile it hurts me. I sigh.
"So is this why Alexis and her gang are being mean to you?" I ask.
"Err. Yeah. As you can tell they're not very happy about me getting one of their best cheerleaders pregnant..." He says, slightly embarrassed.
"Can't she get like..." I feel very uncomfortable saying these things.
He sighs again and runs both his hands down his face. "No. Apparently nasty scars don't go together with her cheerleading outfit."
"But pregnancy stretch marks won't either." I think out loud.
"Not helping!" He says and glares at me, but he can't help but chuckle a bit. There. I feel proud! I actually cheered him up! A bit.
"Well...what are you going to do?" I ask, still anxious on what he's been thinking about.
"I actually have no idea. She wants to put the baby in a home but I'm not too sure about that." He says sadly.
"Brandon. You're 16. You have your whole life ahead of you! You know you can get any girl you want and you can have however many babies you want! But listen up. Do what you want to do, kay?" I say to him. A bit cheesy, I know, but I can't let him give up his whole future for one little mistake in his life. Or, you know. Big mistake.
"Thanks Amber. I just can't get over what would happen to the baby." He says.
"Hey. Let's not think about this anymore. Wanna go to Creamy Plaza?" I ask.
"Hell yeah, let's go get some ice cream!" He shouts.
