I don't own Tokyo Ghoul or Ghost Whisperer!

Kaneki had killed Hide. He had eaten Hide. Oh god, Hide was his best friend and he had killed him.

He was so hungry, so tired. His state of mind wasn't the greatest either.

The fire burned around him as he held Hide close to his chest.

A chunk from Hide's shoulder and hip were torn off. The blood loss had killed Hide. He had killed Hide.

"Hide." He whispered, tears going down his face. "I'm sorry."

Kaneki escaped the burning Anteiku, Hide held carefully in his arms.

Kaneki looked at his best friend's body in is arms, pale and peaceful.

"Don't worry, Hide. You'll get a proper burial. I'm sorry I was such a horrible friend."

He rapidly pounded on Hide's parent's door and gently laid the body on the steps.

Kaneki quickly ran away. He had to get away. He had lost everything dear to him, and he had no purpose in Tokyo anymore.

"America." He muttered. "I'll go to America."

"Hello?" Hide's mother opened the door. "Who's there?"

She screamed when she saw her son's body, an ear piercing, heart breaking scream.

"Hide!"

"Grandview, New York." Kaneki repeated the name on the sign. "Why do I feel drawn here?"

Kaneki shook off the feeling. "It's probably just me."

As he walked along the sidewalks, he heard Hide's voice for the millionth time since he'd left Tokyo.

"America isn't what I'd pictured it." Kaneki could see Hide, standing there smiling. "I really don't know what I expected though. It does look kinda different from Tokyo."

"Go away." He glared at the imaginary Hide. "You're not real. You're here to haunt me for the rest of my life. You're here to remind me of what I did. I get it, okay? I'm a horrible person. I'm not even a person anymore. I'm not even human."

"Kaneki," Hide sighed, frowning sadly at his friend. "I am real."

"You're not." Kaneki hissed.

"I am." Hide repeated, demonstrating this by placing a hand on Kaneki's shoulder.

"Stop." He ground out.

Hide sighed, but complied, and slid his hand off Kaneki's shoulder.

"Sir, are you alright? You're talking to yourself." A stranger spoke to Kaneki.

"I'm fine. Just thinking." Kaneki replied.

The man nodded and walked away, muttering something about 'even more crazies.'

"See? You're not real. Nobody can see you but me, which means you're not real and I'm just insane." Kaneki said.

"You're guilty." Hide corrected. "And you shouldn't be."

"I will always be." Kaneki growled. "Leave me alone. Just go away."

Hide didn't voice his thoughts again, and disappeared from sight.

Kaneki breathed, relieved that the hallucination had disappeared.

Kaneki glanced around when his one eye that wasn't covered by an eyepatch saw an antique shop called 'Same As It Never Was Antiques.'
