Sorry for the wait! On with the chapter!

It had been about two days since Kaneki had last visited Lily.

Lily had told Kaneki not to hover over her like a mother and enjoy himself, instead of worrying about her 24/7.

Kaneki smiled to himself at the girl's stubbornness. She was just like Hide.

Kaneki looked around before his eyes caught something immensely disturbing.

Kaneki tried to breathe, but his throat was tight. Was it really over that quickly?

He grit his teeth hard, eyes tearing up, because he knew it was all over.

The life he's wanted, dreamed of. A normal, peaceful life.

He was a ghoul, and an infamous one at that. His dream life was just that, a dream.

Kaneki watched with a tight chest from across the street, as three people made their way down the sidewalks in uniform.

He recognized them, how could he not?

The girl, Akira, he remembered. He wasn't too familiar with her, but he'd run into her once or twice in his time with Aogiri.

The man with white hair, who could ironically pass as Kaneki's father, was another one Kaneki recognized. Arima was his name. Kaneki wasn't too familiar with him either, but he'd seen him plenty, and all ghouls knew him to be the CCG's Reaper.

Amon was the last, and Kaneki knew the man well. They'd fought each other more than once, and though Kaneki didn't dwell on it, he knew that he'd changed Amon's view on ghouls more than he'd previously thought.

Kaneki had a good theory as to why the three were in America.

The CCG was going to eventually figure out that ghouls were escaping, but Kaneki had hoped it wouldn't be this soon.

All the deaths in Grandview was sure to attract attention, especially from the CCG since they were sure to recognize the signs of a ghoul's doing.

Kaneki took a shaky breath as he watched them from the sidewalk across the street, in between the bustling people that shielded his own body enough so the Doves wouldn't be able to spot him easily.

He clenched his fist and more water gathered into the corners of his eyes. His throat was tighter than before, almost as if someone was squeezing it.

Kaneki blinked away the tears, the tears that appeared because of the hopelessness of the situation.

One of them, most definitely Amon, would eventually recognize him if any of them ran into him one day.

Kaneki forced himself to stay calm. He couldn't have a panic attack now. Being around lots of people, it wasn't the best place to break down.
