Kayla's P.O.V

-about a year ago-

Tomorrow is the first day of school and me and Hayes are so excited. We are gonna be official 8th graders. That means the bosses of middle school. I mean I'm already the boss but now I feel like more of a boss. "Kayla!" I hear and run downstairs. "Good morning daddy." I say.

"Morning pumpkin. Emma is taking you to get some school supplies but I may or may have not slipped a couple dollars in your dresser." He says with a wink. "Thank you." I laugh. "I gotta go, I'll see you on Tuesday." He says before leaving. "Yeah, Tuesday."

Regular parents say I'll see you when you get home or I'll see you for dinner. Not mine. My parents are really never home. Sometimes I see them in the morning but not usually. Emma walls up to me and hugs me. "Parents are dumb, that's why I'm moving to LA with Nash." She says.

"Take me with you!" I plead. "I wish I could. But unlike me, they will notice if you're gone."
"I know."
"Go get ready, we gotta hit the shops and maybe pick up Laura, Hayes, and Jessica." She says and I smile.

It used to be just me and Hayes but in 6th grade we met Jessica and I'd say about a week or 2 ago we met Laura. She's pretty cool. Seems to really like Hayes. Hmm...

I was walking with Emma when I see Hayes. He said he was grounded, how can he be out. I then see Laura and Jessica. Who also made up an excuse to not going shopping with me. "Emma, look." I say, pointing to them. She gives me a weird look. "Go ahead, I'll wait for you." She says as I walk off. I walk up to them and Hayes looks at me. "Hey Kayla. I thought you were grounded." Hayes says.

"Hayes, listen to what you just said." I say and he looks at me weirdly. "You can't get grounded, your parents aren't there." Hayes says and I nod. "Who told you I was grounded?" I ask. "Laura." Jessica and Hayes say at the same time. I then look at her. "Why would you say that?"

"You have a bad life, okay! I mean who really wants to be friends with someone who is all alone and sad." She says. "You whore!" I yell. I then punch her in the boob, cause I know it hurts. I knee her the stomach and just when I was gonna hit her face Hayes grabs me.

-5 months ago-

"I was a dumb 8th grader. Trust me Kayla, I've definitely changed." Laura says to me. "I don't know. I may have acted all tough but that really hurt Laura. I was just being nice and you took my friends." I say. "Oh, like you couldn't find other ones."
"Not helping the situation."
"Right."

"Look Kayla, he's your boyfriend. Taking some friends that I didn't know meant that much to you is one thing but actually knowing how much you and Daniel care for each other, I would never take him. And if I do somehow grow feelings I will do everything to try and stop myself."

-Present Day-

"You said you would stop yourself Laura! That's not stopping yourself!" I yelled at her. Daniel and Jake were still holding me. "I said would try! Key word, TRY!" She yells back at me. "Let me go!" I yell at them and get out of their grip.

"I'm so sorry Kayla, I did try but it felt so right and I couldn't stop myself." She says and I feel tears in my eyes. "Laura, I tried to be nice and I even got you a Christmas gift, why would you do this?" I asked.

"You get whatever you want! Your life is perfect and your sad. For what?" She says and I go to attack but Jake grabs me.

"You think my life is perfect!! You have a mom that you can meet celebrities from, my mom is never there for me! You have a dad that supports everything you wanna do, my dad is dead! Be lucky you even have parents cause I don't! You have so many friends. You see all these people right here, that's it! I don't have friends. I don't like people. The only thing that made me happy was these little friends I have and Daniel! And you know what you just-" I stop and fall to the ground. I start crying.

"Kayla." Daniel says. He kneels down and makes me look at him.

"I never wanted to hurt either of you and ruin the relationship you have. But about a week ago-" Laura was cut off.

"About a week ago week ago." Hayes says and I couldn't help but laugh. Laura them starts laughing and be off you know it we were all laughing. "Laura?" I say after we all stop laughing and she looks at me. "Let's take a walk."

"Kayla." Hayes, Jake, and Daniel all say. "I won't do anything. I promise, just want to talk. Calmly this time." I say. I stand up and look at her. She looks at the boys and nods. We then walk off with them staring at us. "Turn this way, I hate that they are staring." I say as we turn. Once we are far away enough I sit at a bench and she sits next to me. Not exactly right next to me, there was definitely space to fit someone in between us.

"I never wanted to hurt you Kayla, I really didn't. I would never do that when I know how much it hurts to have someone-" I cut her off. "I know. Its okay. You aren't the only one to take blame here, I saw him do it too It's just easier to get mad at you. I'm sorry for that."

"I won't be his friend anymore. I don't want things to get more ruined then what they are." She says and that made me smile. She'd give up her friendship with him just so I can be happy. "No. I like that he has you as a friend but what I need is for you to be more like a Hayes friend." I explain.

"Okay. What does that mean?" Laura asked. "Hayes is my best friend, we are super close and we have lots of fun hanging out but we both have boundaries or rules." I answer.

"Like, we can't sleep on the same bed together but we can have sleepovers. Or we can't have our faces really close but we can hold hands."
"Oh, I get it!! Like things that best friends do."
"Yes!"

She smiles at me and I kinda smiled back. "Are we good now?" She asked and I shake my head. "No. We'll never be good Laura but that doesn't mean I hate you. I just don't like you. Or trust you. I'll learn, just give me some time." I say and she nods. "I'm sorry." She says. "You've said that already." I reply.

"Sorry can't fix everything."
